Instagram post from 8/28/21:

as we prepare to go back to school, we must also continue the work of unlearning our biases and reflecting on our own identities and privilege(s). one way to do so is to consider microaggressions and how we have casually or unthinkingly inflicted violence on those around us. let us pray and meditate on our unconscious harm and take action against the microaggression perpetuated by ourselves and by others.

how are you continuing the work this summer? the book Me and White Supremacy (mainly geared toward folks who “think they’re allies”) by is a great tool we heard about on a recent episode of the podcast Life Kit. unpack your privilege, biases, and continue to do important anti-racism work.

listen to this podcast ep, check out Layla Saad’s page and work (including her podcast and book club ), and ,of course, read Me and White Supremacy. There are copies at the local library or you can go the extra step and support Black Women *and* your local independent bookstore by buying her book (plus, the two bookstores listed can ship the book right to you!)

how can we begin to be allies in spaces we hold power? we all have different identities—our s*x, gender, race, disability status, s*xuality, income, religion—some of which fall into dominant groups (like male presenting, cisgender, white, Christian, upper class) and others which fall into oppressed groups (female presenting, trans, BIPOC, lower/middle class, non-Christian).

being an ally is a constant process of unlearning, learning, AND relearning; listening, showing up, and being accountable to ourselves and others.

how do you try to be a consistent ally? what steps do you plan to take? how have you failed? and how did you work to mend the harm you did?

Hi folks! Welcome to the page for the Catholic Schools of Broome County Racial Justice Initiative. This is separate from our Facebook group— this page will be to share resources, events (like more open houses!), and increase our outreach and engagement with our larger community.

If you aren’t a part of the Facebook group, please feel free to join!!! That is a space for dialogue and exchange, whereas this is more expository.

Thank you for being with us on our journey to making the CSBC more equitable, just, and Christlike. Welcome in solidarity and peace.
