The Counterfeit Culture of the Church

This week we opened God’s Word to Acts 5:1-11 and 1 Thessalonians 4:7.

In Acts 5, Ananias and Sapphira sold a piece of property and brought part of the money to the apostles. On the surface it looked generous. It looked like they were all in. But they had agreed together to keep back some of the money while acting like they were giving it all. Peter called it what it was; lying to the Holy Spirit. Both of them dropped dead, and “great fear came upon all the church.”

They weren’t judged for keeping money. They were judged for the counterfeit. They wanted the appearance of devotion without the reality of it. They wanted credit for a sacrifice they never actually made.

That’s the counterfeit culture the church can drift into; looking the part, saying the right things, showing up, giving a little, serving a little, while the heart stays unclean and unavailable. It’s the version of Christianity that performs well on Sunday but never actually surrenders.

1 Thessalonians 4:7: “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” That’s the standard. God didn’t save us so we could keep living one way in private and another way in public. He called us to the real thing.

God is still calling His people to something better: real holiness instead of polished performance. Not managing an image, but simply being available, honest, open, and willing to let Him deal with what’s real.

If you’ve been living a version of faith that looks good from a distance but doesn’t hold up close, today is a good day to stop. Drop the performance. Tell the truth. And choose to be fully available to Him.

God isn’t looking for better actors. He’s looking for people who will actually be His.

🔥🔥 SUNDAY RECAP 🔥🔥

This week we honored the calling and work of the man God has placed over our church, Pastor Jason. The message from Pastor Kenny centered on a simple but powerful question: “What is a Pastor?”

We looked at three key Scriptures that give us a clear biblical picture:

Ephesians 4:11-12
Pastors are a gift from Christ to the church. Their role is to equip the saints for the work of ministry and to help build up the body of Christ.

Jeremiah 3:15
God promises to give His people shepherds after His own heart who will feed them with knowledge and understanding.

Romans 11:29
The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. A true pastor’s calling isn’t temporary or based on popularity, it is a lasting gift from God.

A pastor isn’t just someone who preaches on Sundays. He is a shepherd who cares for the flock, teaches the Word, protects the church, and helps equip believers to serve.

And to Pastor Jason: thank you for faithfully feeding us with knowledge and understanding, for equipping us, and for loving this church well. We are grateful for you and Mrs Shannon!
