THE ROCK, THE WATER, AND THE PROMISE

In the wilderness, Israel had no water and no way forward. God told Moses to strike the rock, and water poured out in the desert. Life came from stone. (Exodus 17:6)

That moment was not random. It was foreshadowing.

Scripture later makes it clear. “That Rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4)

The rock was struck… and water flowed.
Christ was struck… and life flowed.

Jesus stood and said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” (John 7:37) What happened in the desert pointed forward to something greater. Not just physical water, but living water that satisfies forever.

This is one of many connections woven from the Old Testament into the New. Not separate stories. One unified message.

From the wilderness to the cross, God was revealing His plan.

And the same invitation still stands.

Come and drink.

*Yes, that is the rock at Horeb in Saudi Arabia, shown to be split by no other natural explanation. It doesn't match other rock formations nearby. The ground and lower portions of the rock show smoothing and channeling from sustained water flow, not just a brief rain event. The patterns appear to spread outward from the rock itself. Based on size of water flow, It would have been enough for the Israelites.

Before Pentecost could fully come, the disciples had to learn something powerful: how to TARRY. Not just wait—but to sit down together in unity, choosing fellowship over competition, restoration over resentment.

Jesus appeared to 500 after His resurrection, but only 120 gathered in the upper room. The difference? They learned the power of fellowship—being at peace with God AND each other. Like Mephibosheth at King David’s table, our lameness is covered when we come to the King’s banquet. His love makes us whole.

Are you pacing through life, or have you learned to sit at His table? True fellowship isn’t about programs—it’s about choosing “we” over “me,” giving your heart fully to God instead of the things that bind you. The Master is calling. Will you tarry with Him?

As we enter into Holy Week, The Meeting Place Billings would like to invite you to join us Palm Sunday at 11 AM for worship of our Risen Savior with a relevant message for our lives today. There will be birthday cake available to acknowledge 6 years this past week of The Meeting Place becoming a commissioned church.
Also, on Resurrection Sunday at 11 AM for a celebration and worship of The Risen Lord. Discussion will also be had for anyone interested in baptism.
