The Supreme God possesses all authority and power. The Philistines assumed the battle of the gods was over when they placed the Ark of the Covenant in Dagon's temple as a trophy. Nevertheless, the next morning they discovered Dagon prostrate before the Ark. The Philistines restored him to his position. The following morning, they found him fallen again before the ark, this time with his head and hands severed and lying on the threshold. The head symbolizes authority, while the hands signify power. Consequently, the message conveyed to the pagan Philistines is that all things submit to the authority and power of the Most High God of Israel!
