I am like a green olive tree in the house of God ; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
PSALM 52 : 8

A tree stands in the courtyard. Immovable. Unshakable. With roots deep in the rich earth, drawing strength, support, and sustenance.

An olive tree is evergreen. Always alive, always growing, limbs spreading and greenery flourishing. That was how David pictured himself as a child of God. The question of his place in the world had been settled. He would trust in God’s love forever and ever.

The Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
1 SAMUEL 16 : 7

How wonderful that God calls the seemingly unqualified to serve Him. Few of us are the eldest, the brightest, the most beautiful, or the most gifted. But God does not judge us by our outward appearance….God is not distracted by style, personality, appearance, or archievement. His gaze pierces the flesh and weighs the heart. Then He places His hand upon sincere souls and turns shepherds into kings.

PHILIPPIANS 4 : 13

The suffering you endure can ultimately turn to your benefit. God is working. Only He knows the end from the beginning, and He knows you and your needs far better than even you do. Don’t ask “ why is this happening to me?” Rather, ask the question, “How should I respond?” Otherwise, you’ll miss the beneficial role suffering plays in life.

Blessed is the man who…delight[s] in the law of the LORD…
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.
PSALM 1 : 1-3

If you will be faithful in meditating on the Word of God every day…you will have a wellspring of Joy in your life that bubbles up like an artesian well. It will be like rivers of living water. You won’t have to run to and fro seeking to prime the pump of your spiritual life. The life will be within you and flowing from you.

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Whether therefore we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
ROMANS 14 : 7-9

The life and death of all of us is in the same Hands. We are always surrounded by the Unseen, among whom are the angels, ministers of fire, explicitly commissioned to guard us. He who keeps us neither slumbers nor sleeps. His love is always awake, always aware, always surrounding and upholding and protecting. If a spear or a bullet finds its target in the flesh of one of His servants, it is not because of inattention on His part. It is because of love.

Here is the demonstration of God’s heart. At the point of our deepest betrayal, when we had run our farthest from him and gotten so lost in the woods we could never find our way home, God came and died to rescue us. “
