Everything this world offers comes with an expiration date.

Money.
Status.
Possessions.
Even life itself.

Yet people spend decades chasing things they cannot ultimately keep.

Jim Elliot saw something different.

He understood that what is eternal is worth more than what is temporary.

That's why he wrote:

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

A few years later, he would give his life serving Christ in Ecuador.

Many looked at his death and saw only what was lost.

Jim looked beyond what could be lost...

to what could never be taken away.

"For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?"

REMEMBERING MARTYRS: On this day in 1972, Watchman Nee died in prison.

Watchman Nee was a unique, committed, controversial, and effective church planter, author and evangelist in China. When Mao rose to power in China in 1949, Nee's leadership and zeal for the church made the government consider him an imperialist. He was imprisoned on false charges and remained in prison until his death.

God used Watchman Nee's work in China to create a system of underground churches that has survived and grown over the past fifty years. Many have come to know Christ through his ministry. Pray that more would come to know the truth of Jesus Christ through the underground church in China.
