The Good News of a God Who Passes Over Us in Mercy

We seldom seek to be overlooked, except when we are guilty of something. But in the Passover, God passed over the Israelites’ sins, and He continues to do that for us. Christ is the Lamb of God, and His sacrifice is good for us. We do not want to be overlooked! In fact, in Jesus’ parable, the faithful servants are those who dare not let any opportunity for profit be overlooked. What would you want God to overlook, or see, in your life?

The Good News of a God Who Sends a Deliverer

Today we see the similarities and the contrasts between Moses and Jesus. Both are God’s servants, but only Jesus is willing and able to save us. We will hear of Moses’ unwillingness to serve and save many people, even with the signs God provided. But Jesus, our Lord, is willing to do all that is necessary for all of us to be embraced by God’s love. Jesus Christ came, delivered us, and set us free.

The Good News of a God Who Reveals Himself to Us, Exodus 3:1–15

We pray, but at times God seems distant. Today we hear the Good News that God has come down to us as Jesus, who calls Himself “I AM,” the name Moses was to use. Jesus is God, in whom all of God dwells bodily, Paul writes. In His Son, our heavenly Father made lavish promises: to Abraham, “In you shall all the nations be blessed” (Galatians 3:8), and to us, who belong to Christ, “If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise” (Galatians 3:29). God has revealed Himself in our Savior, Jesus, by His wondrous love.

Rev. Dr. Aaron A. Stinnett, Pastor, Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Smithfield, Rhode Island

We are beginning Lent, the forty days we set aside to focus on our Lord’s Passion as we lead up to Easter. The Lord calls us to “Return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning,” and Joel calls for a “solemn assembly” (Joel 2:12, 15). It is time to “to receive the grace of God” (2 Corinthians 6:1). And it is a time for active dialogue between each of us and our Father in heaven, as Jesus instructs in the Gospel. The readings from Exodus, which shall guide our worship through Lent, though, also provide us with Good News. We do not deserve it, but God hears and answers our cries. Be ready to pray; be ready to thank our gracious God.

Good morning my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The ancient Olympic Games began in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, as a religious festival dedicated to Zeus. Held every four years, these games marked the start of the first recorded Olympiad and featured a single, 192-meter footrace called the stade. They continued for nearly 1,200 years until 393 AD.
Today’s message is based on the reading from 1 Corinthians. The setting is the city of Corinth, Greece. about 800 years after the Olympics started. Saint Paul had started the church in Corinth during his mission trip to Greece. This Christian congregation was now struggling. The culture and the morals of the people around them were just so different. So Paul wrote them a letter to get them back on track. He focused on Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Good morning my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Throughout the season of Epiphany , of which we are celebrating the 4th Sunday of this week, Jesus continues to be revealed as the Messiah … the son of God sent by the Father to save this world and everyone in it. Of course this salvation came by way of the cross and which Jesus died.
That message of the cross is the gospel message … that God himself died for us sinful human beings goes beyond our comprehension … and that is why so many reject the cross and the message it proclaims because the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved …those of us who have faith ... it is the power of God.

Good morning my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today’s message draws our attention to the first disciples that Jesus calls to follow him . . . of all the disciples that are called to follow Him only 12 are set apart to be Apostles . . . just what do you know about these 12 ordinary men who received this extraordinary call?

Good morning my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we celebrate the 4th Sunday in Advent and our message looks at Joseph. There is a lot we can learn from Joseph from the few words that the Bible tells us about him.
