☕ CONNECT COFFEE will be serving gourmet flavored lattes, including our delicious seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte! Regular coffee will also be available, along with fresh, homemade muffins!

🏰 FREE INDOOR BOUNCE ATTRACTIONS! Bring the kids! We've got some incredible attractions, including our giant Star Wars Millennium Falcon Experience! And we'll inflate them when the kids are ready to have some fun!

Pastor Mark Reed has served our church faithfully since 1997. He moved here from Brownsville, Texas, with his wife, Tina, and their four children. Their youngest was born right here in Indiana. Today, all of their children are grown and married, and they’ve blessed Mark and Tina with six beautiful grandchildren.

Pastor Mark holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. He brings decades of experience in pastoral counseling, with a focus on marriage, family, and spiritual growth.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mark also enjoyed a successful parallel career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He considers it one of his greatest honors to have served fellow veterans until his retirement.

Now fully focused on ministry and family, Pastor Mark lives at the intersection of deep faith and hands-on leadership. His sermons walk carefully through Scripture, faithfully teaching God’s eternal truths while inviting us into deeper trust and more devoted love for Jesus. His messages are grounded in the Word, alive with vivid imagery and graphic design, and anchored in a commitment to both grace and obedience.

In 2023, God led us to a bold new season. We sold our former property and moved into a commercial space in the heart of town. Our name changed to Connect Church, but our mission — to follow Jesus and serve others — remains the same. Renovations are transforming our new Main Street location into a vibrant center of ministry.

In 2024, Pastor Mark launched a discipleship initiative that Jesus has used to transform our fellowship. New habits, deeper love, and growing holiness have marked this season. We’re excited to see this ministry expand and bear fruit.

Our church shares a big vision: to love our community through a welcoming coffee café, indoor playground, bounce houses, a “Toddler Town” project, an indoor pickleball court, and fellowship areas where joy and connection flourish. We’re a small church — with big goals and an even bigger heart.

Mark and Tina truly minister as a team. Every Wednesday night, Tina prepares a home-cooked meal for our church family. Her kindness, joy, and love for Jesus shine in everything she does.

Our church longs to be more than a gathering place — we aim to be a faith environment that moves people toward action. We’re not content with surface answers or shallow aspirations. Whether wrestling with spiritual struggles, discipling new believers, or counseling the weary, we embrace depth, wit, and holy curiosity.

Update: Very soon there will be a fun place for you and your family to relax, drink coffee or enjoy delicious latte's or ice mochas and let your kids bounce all that energy out of themselves. We are Connect Church at 321 N Main Street in Bicknell.

Our goal is to provide really delicious coffee - both drip and specialty espresso drinks and both hot and iced varieties at a very fair price.

The bouncy attractions will be free.

Parental supervision is required - no drop offs please.

PS - We were all ready to launch when we discovered our water is off-the-scale hard with minerals and therefore a large water-treatment system is being installed. We are almost there!

The Christian inner life is not, as some might suppose, a matter of legalistically performing our religious duty. Nothing could be further from what Scripture describes.

We are invited to look to the Lord and behold His glory.

We are welcomed, provided for, and sustained in living fellowship with the Living God. Being in our Father’s presence—worshiping Him, speaking with Him, listening before Him, and simply remaining with Him—is at the heart of our spiritual life and the greatest of God’s great means of grace.

2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image from glory to glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Paul speaks of beholding and contemplating the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces and being transformed by the Spirit into Christ’s likeness “from glory to glory.”

And I think there is good reason for that "from glory to glory" language.

The radiance on Moses’ face faded. In a different sense, so does ours. We do not live today merely on yesterday’s encounter with God. Or last year's.

Jesus taught us to ask for “daily bread,” and I believe there is a spiritual principle there as well as a physical one. Jesus Himself is the Bread of Life. In the wilderness, God gave Israel manna, but He gave it daily and forbade them from hoarding it. Why? To teach them humble dependence upon Him.

We come daily because our need is daily.

We come to a loving and gracious Father who delights in our coming. We come through Christ, who has opened the way and who never leaves us or forsakes us. And we follow the example of Jesus Himself, who “often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16).

Apart from this living fellowship, our knowledge of God can easily become knowledge about Him rather than growing personal knowledge of Him.

Religion can even be used to maintain a safe distance from God while allowing us to feel respectable about it.

Relationship permits no such safe distance.

It is intimate. Honest. Humbling. Wonderful. And it is never something we control. It keeps us vulnerable.

We come in faith and confidence, but what we seek cannot be manufactured or seized. God draws near to us by His Spirit. Through the open way Christ has made, we come to know and to be known.

That requires humility and vulnerability, but the reward is beyond description.

Psalm 103 gives us a glimpse:

“He redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Our Father Himself is our great blessing.

He is not merely the giver of good things. He is the Good toward which all His gifts are pointing.

Even now, while His sovereign purposes are bringing this present detour of our lives toward its appointed end, He gives us Himself as a foretaste of what is coming. And the final end is God Himself.
Until then, He is our Life and our God.

Jesus intercedes for us. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us when we do not know how to pray. Christ’s body and blood have opened the curtain. The way into the presence of God stands open.

The impossible has become possible.

The entire gracious work of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit has made a way for people as unworthy as we are to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence,” there to receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Healing. Hope. Mercy. Grace. Lavished love.

Hallelujah!

He is truly beautiful.

And as we behold His glory, the Spirit steadily does His sanctifying work in us—transforming us, little by little, from glory to glory.

Life Lesson 101: I share these words as one who also encounters feelings that push against making the best choices. The more we learn to act on principle rather than feelings or emotions, the more stable our lives become.

When we know a choice is right, what we feel about it does not make it less right. It simply reveals the tension between what we want and what God wants for us.

When we know a behavior, conversation, or self-indulgence is displeasing to God, and we still default to what pleases us, we are revealing that, in that moment, our preference and trust in ourselves are greater than our trust and allegiance to God.

This is not about condemnation. It is about clarity.

Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.” He did not say, “If you love me, you will always feel good about my commands.”

Once we decide to do what He says, we can acknowledge our feelings and then step over them on our way to obedience. As we keep doing that, those feelings often begin to lose their power to dictate what we do.

The blessing is for those who obey—not merely those who feel like obeying.

Caving to self leads nowhere but down. Excusing ourselves for doing exactly what our flesh desires does not lead us toward joy; it leads us away from it.

So we make the right decision even when it is hard. We do it because we love Jesus and trust Him more than our own wants and felt needs.

Our feelings are real, but we must not allow them to rule our decisions or we are unable to call Jesus our Lord.

Our lives are much better with Jesus on the throne than us.

And only Jesus can truly satisfy us and give us the peace and joy our hearts are looking for.

Over the past several weeks, we have been Growing in Prayer together.

We began by asking what kind of prayer life Jesus is calling us into—not simply prayer in moments of crisis, but a life of communion with God.

We have considered the privilege of interceding for others, listened again to the desires Jesus teaches us in the Lord’s Prayer, and watched Jesus Himself repeatedly withdraw from the crowds to be alone with His Father.

Last Sunday we followed the biblical story into the Tabernacle and discovered something wonderful: God has always desired to dwell with His people. Through Christ, the way into the Father’s presence has now been opened to us.

But that raises another question:

Why does God bring us into His presence? What happens there?

This Sunday we come to 2 Corinthians 3 and one of the most beautiful descriptions of the Christian life in Scripture:

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image…”

Prayer is more than asking God for things. It is turning toward the Lord, beholding Him, and allowing the Holy Spirit to do His transforming work within us.

Next Sunday we reach the center of our Growing in Prayer series.

We began with a simple request:

“Lord, teach us to pray.”

We’ve discovered that prayer can be difficult. Unbelief, pride, shame, rebellion, and spiritual opposition all work against it.

But our hope is greater.

Jesus lives to intercede for us.
The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
And Jesus teaches us what to pray for by teaching us what to desire.

So we keep following the same pattern:

Discover. Desire. Do.

Last week we watched Jesus Himself. Again and again, He withdrew to lonely places and prayed. His mission and His communion with the Father were inseparable.

Work and prayer belong together.

And if Jesus lived in dependence upon the Father and the Spirit, how much more do we?

Prayer is communion with the living God.

Next Sunday we’ll look at why prayer and God’s presence belong together, what our access to Him cost the Father and the Son, and how—through Christ and by the Spirit—we are invited to draw near.

Another fantastic Labor Day Parade in our hometown of Bicknell! Connect Church on Main gave away over 300 pulled-pork sandwiches and hosted a great bunch of kids in our bounce attractions. So much fun and happiness! I'm very grateful and proud of how much fun we have working together. We love serving our community. Come gather with us this Sunday at 10:30 AM of you're looking for a church family. We are following Jesus together. ❤️
