We celebrate 🏳️‍🌈 with joy and thanksgiving, not only as a gesture of welcome and inclusion, but as a celebration of one of the deepest truths of our faith: all are one in Christ Jesus.

Did you know that in many parts of the world, solar power is now the most affordable form of energy? As commercial electricity prices continue to rise, our solar panels will secure a stable cost for much of the Church’s electricity needs for the next 25+ years. St. Philip’s is a model of faithful stewardship of God’s creation.

To date, our solar panel system has produced 30.4 MWh (St. Philip's consumes about 19 MWh/year), avoided producing 47,100 pounds of CO2, and supplied enough energy to power a car for 53,400 miles.

As I was talking with some peers recently about Trinity Sunday and all the pratfalls that lay before anyone hoping to preach about the Trinity, one word stuck in my mind: Tension. There is a push and pull that grabs onto difficult parts of a life lived in faith.

Faith is not something we should operationalize into a tool, yet we should be inspired into action because of faith. Trust in God is absolutely reliable, yet we should use our reason, strength, and skill to work for the things we ask God to help us with. When we emphasize one part of loving our neighbors we should also be caring for ourselves in turn.

The more I looked, the more I recognized the shape of a celestial body in orbit around a larger object whose gravity is constantly pulling the first object towards itself.

God’s love is always acting on us, drawing us closer with a force we cannot see. At the same time there are forces around us that act tangentially, to make our drawing closer to God something more like the orbit of planets or a painfully slow inward spiral.

At the end of all that can possibly be, we will all fall into the pull of God’s love for us; no matter what other tensions we have managed or navigated in this life. I pray that we will boldly go into our lives which are so filled with tension, trusting in that promise.

In peace ~
Father Chip
