Friday Reflections: Our Help In Weakness

Too many Christians operate under the misconception that God helps us only when we have gone as far as we can go. In reality, His Spirit does not add to our strength, like some kind of spiritual steriod. Instead, when we admit we are powerless to help ourselves, the Holy Spirit gives us the strength we need to face any challenge with absolute confidence in God. (John 14:16-17)

Wednesday Reflections: His Strength Fills Us

Life often crowds in and saps the strength we need for the truly important things in our lives. Sometimes, we just don't have the strength we need to fulfill the Lord's purpose for us. We find it difficult to serve, to use our gifts or even to realize the dreams God gave us. But if we ask God for strength, He gives it to us. His strength fills us with life to complete the things He wants us to do. It also opens our eyes to the wonder of God's work through us. (Psalm 138:3)

Tuesday Reflections: Changing Your Mind

If a spiritual dietitian analyzed what goes into your mind each day, what would the report say? What proportion of your mental food is godly and scriptural? While it's sometimes very difficult to control our thoughts, it is not so hard to control what we are allowing into our minds. Improving our mental diet enriches our thinking, elevates our attitude, and renews our spirits. Cut out the junk and fill your mind with whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). (Romans 12:2)

Monday Reflections: Trust In God

If we don't recognize God's presences in our life we will choose our own way. We will end up wandering aimlessly because we don't have the perspective that God does. He sees the big picture. He knows where He's going, and He knows where He wants to take us. He promises to guide us to salvation, to maturity in Christ and to the place He created for us. He wants us to reach our full potential in Him. Acknowledge Him and He will guide you to places you can't imagine. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Sunday Reflections: When There Is No Peace

How are we to live in a warring world without being influenced by such ever-present discord? How can we quell the internal discord we feel in times of loneliness, discouragement, or despair? The Scripture points to the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, as the answer (Isaiah 9:6-7). With Him living in us as Lord, the fruit of His Spirit in our life is peace (Galatians 5:22). When we commit our anxieties and discord to Him in prayer, we receive His peace (Philippians 4:6-7) - regardless of what is going on around us or in us. (Jeremiah 6:14)

Saturday Reflections: Our Fulfillment

Because we are all human and made in God’s image, we all have a longing for fulfillment and to find a purpose that can carry us through the ups and downs of life. We all want love and respect and to be treated fairly by others. We all feel emotions: sadness when something valuable is lost; angry when we are blocked from some- thing we want; fearful when threatened; and happy when good things come our way. We also all have faculties of reason to help us solve problems and make good decisions. The same God who made us to have so much in common also made us to have differences. Other than twins, no two people have ever had the same genetic code; and even identical twins are never exactly alike in temperament, interests, and abilities. These differences among us don’t make one person better than another — in fact, quite the contrary, for they make us interdependent. When we recognize our differences as being God-given, it instills a sense of respect and of valuing one another. (Psalm 139:13-14)

Friday Reflections: Hope In The Storm

People we know, perhaps even you are facing terrible storms in their life. Broken homes, joblessness, loneliness, loss, financial struggles, and Illness slash at the very fabric of hope. Some even feel as though they’re lost, adrift at sea in a small boat during a turbulent storm. And many wonder, how on earth will we be able to reach the shore safely?

The disciples faced this fear as well. While they were crossing the Sea of Galilee in their boat, the weather took a frightening turn. in desperation, they woke Jesus and cried, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” (Matt. 8:25). He scolded them for their lack of faith and proceeded to calm the storm, showing Himself to be Lord over all creation.

This passage instructs us where we should turn when storms arise in our own life. Sometimes people view challenging events as an indication that God isn’t paying attention. That’s what the disciples thought until Jesus calmed the storm. But even when our seems out of control, remember that Jesus is in the boat with you, and He’s still Lord of all circumstances. (Matthew 8:23-27)

Thursday Reflections: Ask Him

One of the ways we can grow in the Lord is to listen to Him. If we open up our life to Him, He will show us where we are off-track. Invite Him to examine your heart and reveal to you where you need to grow. Ask Him how you can please Him. Then, listen. He won't leave you alone to figure it out by yourself. He will show you. Then, He will help you make the necessary steps you need to take to grow. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Wednesday Reflections: Faith To Trust The Word

Following the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus returned to Capernaum. There He encountered a Roman Centurian who approached Him with an request on behalf of his servant who was "terribly tormented." Jesus offered to go with the officer and heal the servant.

The centurion's response was equally incredible. He said he was not worthy fo Jesus' company but knew His "word" would be enough. This is the essence of faith - to trust what He promises. In some circumstances, we must believe what He says even though the evidence may be to the contrary; at other times we must trust while waiting to know anything at all.

Many times we want proof that the Lord will do as we request. But the God we serve is true to His Word. Faith gives us the power to pay attention to Jesus and trust that He will do as He promises, regardless of what we see now. (Matthew 8:5-10, 13)

Tuesday Reflections: Move Forward By Faith

Scripture tells us that adversity produces a deeper intimacy with God for guidance and provision. The life of Moses demonstrates this, and it holds true for believers today. Hardships are inevetable. We could try doing everything in our power to avoid them but would be unsuccessful. A wiser approach is to meet the challenge and move forward by faith. (Exodus 14:10-31)

Monday Reflections: Respond With Love

When the apostle Paul offered his appeal, "I beseech you," in Romans 12:1, he didn't command his readers to present themselves to God because it is an imperative, crucial step toward salvation. Instead, "beseech" implies an urging to respond to what God has already done - mercifully delivering us from sin and graciously bestowing blessings we don't deserve. We can't help but respond to what God has done for us. Without hypocrisy or envy, Paul's counsel models a true spirit of love toward God.

The only spiritual service that honors and pleases God is the heartfelt devotion of His children who give themselves totally to Him. Tell God you love Him and think of some ways you can pour His love into those around you. (Romans 12:10)

Sunday Reflections: Education From Trials

Rejoice when we run into problems and trials? It sound too difficult to do. For the most part, people avoid problems and trials. But when we look at our life from God's perspective,we see problems and trialsin a different light. God knows that we will never grow in character unless we go through struggles. Therefore, we can look at trials as something to learn from, not run from. When we take that attitude, we will be able to become more like Christ. (Romans 5:3)
