That’s a wrap in the sugarhouse for us this year. What a strange year, but it was still a wonderful season! Celebrating over 57 years of sugaring on the hill, Joan & Harv have put in some long hours and were here through the end for every boil. Big thanks to Rob who has ran the whole show the last two nights while Jon was trucking sap.
On to solely trucking, hoping Mother Nature is good to all our fellow sugar makers.

We have been looking for a weekend where it was warm enough for the vacuum to be on so we could walk lines and make repairs, we lucked out today! A beautiful day!

The vacuum has been running real low for the last three freezing weekends. Research shows that for every additional inch of vacuum applied over 15" Hg, you can expect an increase in sap yield of roughly 5%-7%. That is HUGE!!!

It’s kind of a joke between us that Mel can walk & check lines, but when it comes to any type of damage, the repair shall be minor or bigger forces will need to quickly scoot over to her line to assist. Or, do the full repair rather. WELL, the tables turned a little and Mel gained some bragging rights today after putting her pristine listening skills to work!

Happy to report we got the vacuum up to 23” from 14”, this is the very best the ol’ pump will do.

We are excited for the week ahead.

Two weekends in a row the sap hasn’t ran and while we typically run with a glass half full mindset, next weekend is looking even colder than this one.
We are hoping to have our 6th boil real soon but until then I suppose we’ll transplant some tomatoes, work around the house and reflect on what we have been able to accomplish thus far.

Thanks to all of our friends and family who have checked in, we are anxious to have you visit too!!

Earlier last week we had a full pull with long boils and super late nights, but this week after what we think was the RUN OF THE DECADE, we’ve enjoyed a couple nights off. Mondays run was insane, thank goodness Jon was able to take off from work to do a day time boil. Hoping for a Friday & Saturday boil… until then, it’s time for another throwback Thursday.
