Exegesis is a fancy word used by Biblical scholars that references the importance about seeking the truth in the Scriptures. Sometimes, it is as simple as reading the words on the page; other times discernment requires us to explore the context, culture, or concern being addressed. In any case, we need to address the Bible with an eye on God's will in order to apply these truths to our spiritual journeys. We will find "false teachings" which lead us astray if we only seek to find confirmation of what we think we know. NEXT WEEK: 1 Timothy 6:3-19

The structure of how Churches manage their missions and ministries are varied; yet there is a common truth that binds each community of faith together as church family, and guides their shared purpose as servants of God's will. The Apostle Paul's instructions here aid in that unity of common service, even as it seeks to keep other cultural considerations from disrupting the fellowship of believers or diminishing the effectiveness of their communal discipleship. Understanding the Bible requires both the Word and the Spirit. Sometimes, simply reading the Scriptures can be made more challenging when we do not account for both. To discern the meaning of Paul's briefing on worship calls us to take account for the concern he expresses in chapter 1 about "false teachers", the culture of his time, and the grace granted him in spite of his own imperfection. If we do this, then the truth of God's will for our own growing and everyday discipleship is revealed by the Holy Spirit. NEXT WEEK: 1 Timothy 3:1-16

As Paul begins to counsel Timothy in this letter, we may see our own apprehension at serving as an instrument of God as disciples of Jesus Christ. How can we be worthy of answering the call? Paul gives us the answer: By living into the grace and mercy of the One who calls us. While we may be limited in our own abilities, we can rely on the Lord to make up the difference between God's vision and our limitations! NEXT WEEK: 1 Timothy 2:1-15

When we reflect on the journey of Three Wise Men during Epiphany, we often focus on the giving and receiving of gifts, While this is an important aspect to the story, let us consider how the trip itself brings is an essential lesson for our faith journeys. After renewing ourselves in the Light carried by the Child of Bethlehem, the farther we move from the manger can cause the darkness that still surround us in this world to obscure it. The journey of the Wise Men can help us to discern how to carry that Light within us throughout the year. NEXT WEEK: 1 Timothy 1:12-20

As a New Year dawns, we commonly celebrate it as a new beginning. As we continue to be in remembrance of the Christmas Child we have received, we want to hold on to the hope, peace, joy and love that has been renewed in us. It is the perfect time for us to commit ourselves to more intentionally seeking God through the love shared in the coming of Christ. Renewing this commitment helps us to be empowered, and pass on, that which we all seek. NEXT WEEK: Matthew 2:1-12

In this special time of year, it can be even harder to see the Love-light of God, due to the darknesses of adversities we face. In fact, sometimes it makes us feel even greater suffering; in a joyful season, how can we be "blue"? It is okay for all of us to feel down; yet God reaches out to us in love to dispel the darkness - or even just to strengthen and support us until it dissipates. It is our prayer that this message can help you find God's comforting assurance, and the Light of God's love can help you find peace and joy this Christmas. The Joy we share in our preparations are informed by our past and our present; aiding us in looking towards the future without fear or anxiety. This is not the same thing as replicating happy times. If we consider how the promises that God makes for that future have unknown results, it is the light of that Joy we possess even in tough times that strengthens us to endure all adversity to reach for the fulfillment of each one! Therefore, just as we know that winter will end, we can be joyful about the spring that will be. NEXT WEEK: Matthew 1:18-25

As we consider our Advent preparations this year, let us reflect on our new understanding of looking back at promises fulfilled, seeking blessings to sustain us in the here and now, and looking ahead to an unknown future destination. The connection to God's "Family Tree" nurtures our faith and helps us to be at peace no matter what concerns challenge our present. The "peace that passes all understanding" does not slow down or hasten our growth; yet it does help us to be prepared for how God helping us to bear much fruit as all promises are fulfilled. NEXT WEEK: Isaiah 35:1-10

Let us consider the important preparations we are making this year! NEXT WEEK: Isaiah 11:1-10
