Phlegmatican Monastery

Phlegmatican Monastery This official page of the Plegmatican Monks of George St., a monastic order dedicated to the promotion of peace among all humankind. The George St. George.

The Plagmatican Monks are flexible community dedicated to peace. As one of the oldest monastic orders in Berrien Springs, Michigan, the Phlegmaticans have a long and rich tradition. They are reknown for their traditional music and hospitality. Phlegmatican Monastary serves as the official headquarters of the order. As the name "Phlegmatic" implies, Phlegmaticans are a very laid back and tranquil p

eople. The Order imposes few restrictions upon its members aside from devotion to peacefulness. The Order is based upon Matthew 5:9: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." The official symbol of the order is the Cross of St. Since the monastery is located on George St., the order adopted St. George as its official symbol. The symbol of St. George slaying the dragon is therefore used by the order to symbolize their struggle against violence. Phlegmaticans are referred to as "monks," although the term used used loosely. Phlegmaticans are permitted to have girlfriends and to marry, so long as it will not interfere with their core objective of promoting peace. The official garb of the order is white t-shirts and bluejeans; the white symbolizes the white background of the Cross of St. George, while the bluejeans are the modern equivalent of sackcloth and represent the order's concern for the plight of the common man. However, this formal Phlegmatican attire is rarely required except at the most formal gatherings of the order. Phlegmaticans are also required to fast daily, abstaining from food for at least 6-8 hours each night.
