Class: From the Depths of Soul: The Depths of the Prayer 'Nishmat"

Dear Beit Midrash Family:

My father's yahrzeit is coming up this Thursday evening and Friday day (30th of Nissan, First day Rosh Chodesh Iyar). I would like to invite you to join me in a class in his memory on Thursday evening on Zoom at 7:30 pm Israel time. It will be 9:30 am California time

Title: From the Depths of Soul: The Depths of the Prayer 'Nishmat"

The class will be largely from a text I have been learning recently on the prayer Nishmat Kol Chai. There is a chapter in this text that is considered preparation for learning and understanding this prayer that speaks about Shabbat and about the sephirot. Although I have been keeping Shabbos for over 60 years and thought I had a pretty good handle on it intellectually, experientially and spiritually, this book really deepened my understanding and left me in wonder. I'd love to share it with you.

I will probably open with a few words about my father, and so the class will be between one hour and one hour and 15 minutes. It will involve text.

My father's name is Yisroel Yaakov ben Yosef Leib. May this learning elevate his soul.

I pray that all of you and your families are well and will stay that way. I think all this "alone time" is good for considering what changes you feel you need to make inside you or in your life to prepare/participate in bringing on the ultimate redemption. It does indeed feel like we are poised on that threshold...

With so much love, and looking forward to welcoming everyone when they come to Israel,

Jody (and all the Beit Midrash crew here...)

A Chinese Medicine Doctor's Guide to COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment

03/18/2020

Hello Beit Midrash*tes,

We hope this email finds you all healthy, and not overly anxious during these turbulent times. In the hopes of helping people maintain their health and avoid becoming infected by the Coronavirus, we are sending out a link, below, to a paper written by our own Noach Bittelman, detailing preventive measures that can be taken to help ward off or mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus. Noach also wrote a blogpost for The Times of Israel outlining some ideas of how he thinks the West should be approaching the pandemic. Here are the two links:

May we all be blessed with great insight to know what is called for from each one of us, and from all of us as together as the Jewish People. And may each and every one of us be blessed with continued good health.
Love,
Beit Midrash Ohr HaChaim

Dear Beloved Beit Midrash*tes:

I wanted to let everyone know that Chanan's 10th yahrzeit is coming up this Thursday evening (November 7) and Friday day (November 8). Here in Israel a few of us will gather to say a few l'chaims at night and then go up to the kever Friday morning. If you are here in Israel and want to join us for either one, please call me at 054-932-9690, and I'll fill you in on the details.

Whether you are in Israel or in Berkeley, or somewhere else on the globe, please keep him in mind, learn some mishna, or chassidus, or Torah of any sort in his name, give a coin or two to tzedaka in his name, remember a story about him or one he told, drink a l'chaim and send his neshama a bracha for an ever increasing aliya. If anyone is motivated to offer a Torah class in his name sometime in the coming month, let me know. I am hoping to arrange several, in several different locations, over time for this 10th year.. If it materializes I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, hope every one of you are well and thriving. May this year bring you all of the good and holy things your heart desires, and may we witness the miracles of mashiach revelation and techias hameisim.

Missing you all and sending so much love,

Jody
