No legislation changes that. No headline changes that. No amount of fear changes that.

You are seen. You are sacred. You belong.

This week, we light the Candle of Peace, Hope, and Justice for all who have been harmed for following Jesus by refusing domination, rejecting violence, and resisting the false promises of empire.

For those who have spoken out against military violence and the ballooning Department of Defense budget only to be dismissed, monitored, or silenced.

For those who resist systems of mass incarceration and policing that disproportionately harm people of color or who advocate for immigrants and refugees, demanding an end to practices that detain, deport, disappear, and dehumanize and are told to fall in line.

For those who tell the truth about economic systems that reward the wealthy while others struggle to secure housing and food, labeling any desire to redistribute resources in ways Jesus taught as unrealistic.

For those who follow Jesus by confronting these realities and discover that faithfulness can come at a real cost in this nation.
