Join Beyt Tikkun, Acorn Shabbat, and Jewish Voice for Peace Bay Area this Friday for Family Shabbat!

In December, when our team planned for 2026, we named one of our goals to expand our children's and family programming! So we are collaborating with amazing folks leading anti-zionist Jewish kids programming in the Bay Area, to create a night of thoughtful, engaging programming for families with young kids.

Here’s what we have planned:
✨ Spirited, singable songs for kids and grown-ups
✨ A short, meaningful Shabbat teaching from Rabbi Cat
✨ An interactive art activity
✨ A vegetarian potluck
✨ A chance to share what you’re hoping for in future family programming

Schedule:
5:15 – Doors Open
5:30–6:15 – Singing, Teaching, Art & Blessings
6:15–7:00 – Potluck + Conversation

Reflections from my time in MN - an article I co-wrote with Kohenet Rae Abileah on the connections btw the occupation in MN and in Palestine.

The people of Minneapolis and Palestine have both responded to occupation and state terror with extraordinary courage and love.

Join us for Shabbat & Torah Study tomorrow - online or in person!

Saturday, December 6th with Rabbi Cat Zavis, 9:30am-12:30pm

This week, we’ll explore Parshat Vayishlach, where Jacob prepares to meet his estranged brother Esau and wrestles through the night with a mysterious being. Is it an angel? Esau? His own conscience? What does it mean to wrestle with our past and prevail? What does it mean for us, today, to be Am Yisrael - the people who wrestle with God?

🕊️ Weekly Action for Peace

This week, we celebrate a powerful win—and keep building momentum for justice.

🙌 A 16-year-old Palestinian-American teen, Mohammed Ibrahim, has been released from Israeli detention after 9 months. His freedom is a direct result of coordinated pressure from his family, advocates, and a group of principled elected officials. Let’s thank them—and keep going.

🔓 We continue to demand freedom for Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Gaza pediatrician still imprisoned for doing his job.
🛑 We say NO to unauthorized war in Venezuela.
🧠 And we learn from voices at the front lines of the struggle to speak out on Palestine.

📣 Details, scripts, call lists, and learning resources are all at:

Every action counts. Every voice adds pressure.
Let’s keep showing up, together.

Join us for a Chanukah celebration rooted in justice, joy, and community!
Sunday, December 14, 2025
📍 Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists (1606 Bonita Ave) + Zoom

At a time marked by global liberation movements, spiritual searching, and urgent calls for justice, Chanukah invites us to gather, reflect, and reconnect. Traditionally a story about resisting oppression, the holiday also reminds us of the dangers of chauvinism and internal division. Together, we will uplift the liberatory spirit of Chanukah and the rabbinic reframing of this season as one of spiritual renewal and courage.

✨ Schedule
4:00–5:00 PM — DIY Oil Menorah Craft (In Person Only)

A hands-on workshop where we’ll create oil menorahs using Palestinian olive oil—a symbol of land, resilience, and abundance both in Palestinian life and in the story of Chanukah.
We’ll provide oil, guidance, and sample designs; registrants will receive a short supply list to bring.

This activity invites us to tend to small flames of hope and root our celebration in justice, creativity, and community.

5:15–7:15 PM — Chanukah Celebration (Hybrid)

🕯️ Candle lighting & storytelling
🎶 Song, blessings, & shared ritual
🥔 Latkes & festive snacks
A space to honor the complexities of the holiday while we create joy and spiritual grounding together.
