Youth and Family Education Administrator

Congregation Beth El, Berkeley’s progressive Reform Congregation since 1945, seeks our next Youth and Family Education (YAFE) Administrator.
Candidates should have experience in administrative and customer-facing roles, ideally in a membership organization or similar institution, and be comfortable working with children and their guardians. Familiarity with Jewish customs, rituals and synagogue life is extremely helpful. You must have excellent writing and office skills. Experience with Microsoft office suite, membership/CRM databases, and Google applications needed.

Reports To: The Two Directors of Learning and Engagement, K-5 and 6-12
Congregation Beth El operates an after-school, supplemental education program for approximately 100 students. The program currently operates from 3:00 – 6:00 Tuesday, 3:00 - 6:00 Wednesday, and Thursdays from 2:30 - 6:00 as well as a Satellite Hebrew program on Monday evenings from 5:00-7:00 pm. In addition, there are events throughout the year including Friday evening Shabbat programming and Saturday morning Shabbat programs. Hours are varied based on school schedules and events.

This position is responsible to:
Develop, in conjunction with Membership office, the YAFE program registration
Develop, maintain and distribute program calendars and rosters
Coordinate and produce internal and external communications, including website, with DLEs
Support teaching staff as needed, including processing requests for educational materials, classroom setups, expense reimbursement, print jobs, and other administrative tasks as directed by DLEs
Provide general, administrative and planning support for special educational programs, Shabbat Ruach and Shabbaton
Support staff and DLEs as needed for Pre-Kadima ( grades K-5) and Pre-Makom (grades 6-8)
Oversee student attendance, rosters, and maintain throughout the school year
Manage teen office assistants on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
Assist in YAFE volunteer coordination and support
As a member of the administrative team, support major synagogue programs (High Holy Days, Shabbaton Weekend retreat, Annual Gala, etc.)
Supervise and execute all food needs for YAFE programs including snack and special programs
Design marketing strategy for all YAFE events
Review the teacher payroll
Other tasks as requested by the DLEs
Education, training and experience
● Four-year college degree preferred
● Two years office and/or program experience in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge/skills
● Demonstrates excellent communication skills and sensitivity in dealing with people.
● Comfortable interacting with and talking to children of all ages.
● Excellent oral and written skills.
● Computer expertise and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Wufoo, Reg Pack (or similar), Mail Chimp (or similar), database management, the internet, and social networking.
● Must maintain strict confidentiality.
● Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, and prioritize demands.
● Excellent organizational skills
● Familiarity with Jewish customs and rituals, synagogue life and the ability to read Hebrew is desirable.
● Ability to work collaboratively with staff and synagogue volunteers.
