First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley

First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley Looking for a place to go deeper in faith, finding your way back to church, or just curious about God? You are welcome here.

This is a place where questions can be asked, honest reflection is encouraged, creativity is cultivated, and where faith is not a formula, but a life lived. We seek to be engaged locally and around the world, to listen and to learn, to embody justice and compassion, and to share the love of Jesus Christ in tangible ways as we journey together.

Looking for chance to reconvene with nature after finals season? Join us on First Pres Hikes' next outing: an exploration of the Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park! This hike will be our first Young Adult & Grad Pop-Up, with the Rev. Sarah Henkel leading a short “Wild Church” service halfway through the hike. All are welcome to join!

Wild Church is a practice of recognizing the holiness of the natural world; it’s a reminder of our place within the web of life, within and beyond any spiritual tradition. The Rev. Sarah Henkel is Presbyterian pastor and community organizer hailing from New York.

We’ll meet at the Roberts Regional Recreation Area - the main hike should take about two hours, with the option to stick around longer for a more strenuous hiking experience. Head to our website for more details. We look forward to seeing you on June 6!

Join us after worship for a training session with Sanctuary tech!

We’ll start with explaining the various roles and the equipment they use, then have hands-on time to get a feel for how it works in action. There will be donuts on the Plaza for Pride Month during the June training as a bonus incentive! :)

Whether it’s working with cameras, microphones, or slides, the Tech Team is a unique way to be an active part of worship on Sunday mornings. We hope you’ll join us for a training on June 7, July 5, or August 2!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our API Heritage Fest a few weeks ago! It was a beautiful celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander culture, as well as a showcase of the many talents and immigration stories in our community.

If you missed it, be sure to swing by the 2nd floor of Geneva Hall to check out some of the heritage displays by our congregants, a few of which are pictured here. We are grateful to everyone who participated and shared the stories of their unique family heritage!

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the graduates of the Life Skills Class and commission our Active Listening Ministers!

Are you going through a crisis, grieving a loss, facing a life transition or a spiritual challenge? Our Active Listening Ministers are trained community members who provide confidential, no-fee, ongoing, one-to-one support to those experiencing a difficult time in life. We look forward to blessing and commissioning them during this Sunday’s worship as they take on their new roles as Active Listening Ministers in our community.

We invite you to join us during worship at 10 am to show your support. Head to our website if you are interested in seeking help from an Active Listening Minister at First Pres.

First Pres offers many opportunities for contemplative prayer and reflection!

Lectio Divina begins this Sunday before worship. Through a brief meditation on the week’s scripture, we’ll prepare our hearts for our spiritual journey.

Additionally, you can join Virtual Prayer Teams that occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday over Zoom. Check our website for further details. Looking for in-person prayer time during the week? Our sanctuary is open to you every second Wednesday of the month at noon.

Thank you to our new friends at Beyond the Farm!

Beyond the Farm is a national organization of Stanford alumni who venture out to serve their local communities. We’re grateful that they crossed into rival territory (haha) and lent their time at our May 2 Food Pantry.

We were also glad that this Food Pantry was included as one of sites for the community-wide Day of Service, sponsored by Project Peace. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and roll up our sleeves together to serve our neighbors.

Interested in helping out? Join us every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month!
