As our name implies, we believe that “church” is not a building. It is a community of people gathered to love God, one another and their city in a way that heals divisions and makes friends of strangers. We are far from perfect in this, but we’ve found it to be a marvelous adventure.

But for us, today is one of those moments where we pause and give thanks for God’s faithfulness, the gift of family, good food, real fellowship, and the blessing of community. This Ash Wednesday, our “Ash and Dash” event was a true testament to the spirit of community and compassion. As we gathered in the heart of Berkeley, we offered ashes and blessings to our neighbors, and members of church without walls creating a sacred space of connection and hope. It was heartwarming to see so many come together, sharing kindness and love in a gesture that went beyond the physical act of receiving ashes.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to make this event possible. Your generosity has blessed our unhoused community in profound ways—providing not just ashes, but warmth, care, and the reminder that they are seen and valued. Together, we are making a difference, and your support is truly a blessing.
