A Devotional Moment:
Daniel 12:3 NIV
“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

The chapter begins with the dramatic unfolding of the end times. Those who have died rise from the dust in awe-inspiring fashion, some to everlasting life and others to shame and everlasting contempt, depending upon whether their name is found written in the book referring to the Lamb's Book of Life.

Stars shine brightly across the darkness of the night, but eventually their light will fade. Those who have been a light in this dark world, pointing and leading others to Christ, will shine like these stars, but their light will not dim. They will shine forever and ever.

What a beautiful picture of eternity. The heavenly bodies and souls of the wise illuminated by the Light of Christ, darkness having been driven out forever, shining as beacons of truth and righteousness. But this picture of what we will be in eternity should cause us to examine how we are living today.

Is the light of Christ apparent and shining through you, driving out darkness and pointing others to Christ? Are you actively speaking truth into the lives of others, showing them the way to Jesus? Can people see the Light of Christ through the way you live, love, serve, forgive, and treat others?
Jesus called us the light of the world. Light is not meant to be hidden. It is meant to shine into the darkness so others can see the way.

Today's challenge is simple: tell people about Jesus. Be the light in a dark world. Don't just preach and teach it, walk it out in all you do. Point others to Christ today, because a life that leads someone to Jesus can shine into eternity.

A Devotional Moment...
Psalm 34:19 NIV
[19] “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”

God has never promised that life would be easy and free of troubles when we follow Him. The Bible is filled with accounts of God's people, prophets, priests, judges, kings, and even His own Son experiencing exile, persecution, imprisonment, torture, slavery, and death for the sake of proclaiming the Word of God. There are plenty of instances where troubles were self inflicted, but that is not what we are talking about here.

To follow God is the narrow road of self sacrificial obedience to His will and purpose, which is better than our own. God has promised to be with us, deliver us from evil, and provide for our every need, although what we think we need and what our Creator knows we actually need can be vastly different. This is why we are called to live by faith, trusting God for His providential provision in times of hardship.

In this chapter David is fleeing from Saul, the King of Israel and David's father in law, with whom he should have been safe. As this unfolds, he now must face the enemy of Israel, the king of the Philistines. David pretends to be insane before the king, and the king drives him away. David finds himself between the proverbial rock and a hard place. He is facing death and danger from all sides in a seemingly nowhere to run and nowhere to hide situation with no escape.

But this is not what David has in his spirit. David has praise and worship to the Lord his God, his Deliverer, his Redeemer, and his Savior. His circumstances say fear, but his spirit says praise. His situation looks hopeless, but his faith says God will deliver me.

In verse 20 we also see a beautiful Messianic foreshadowing ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ: “he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.” John specifically points back to this truth at the crucifixion when none of Jesus' bones were broken.

We know by reading God's Word that we are to count it all joy when we fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces patience. Trials do not always mean we are outside the will of God. Sometimes they come because we are walking in obedience to God. If we are being attacked or persecuted, not because of self inflicted circumstances but for the sake of Christ, we should not become discouraged. Keep fighting the good fight. God can use the very thing meant to discourage us to strengthen our faith and draw us closer to Him.

Today is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it, let's shift our perspective from the problem to the Promise. God knows what we need, whether purification in the fire, trials that build our faith, or persecution through which we learn to find joy in Him. Today let's put God first, trusting that He knows what is best and remembering that no matter what trouble surrounds us, He is our Deliverer.

A DEVOTIONAL MOMENT....Jeremiah 31:25 NIV, "I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint".
Jeremiah 31 is one of the most beautiful chapters in the Old testament, containing profound promises of hope, restoration, and the New Covenant. God declares His everlasting love for His people and promises to draw them with loving kindness. He promises restoration after judgement and joy instead of mourning.
What a wonderful chapter full of prophetic promises for God's people--promises of restoration, provision, joy, and a New Covenant where the Law will not be written on tablets of stone but on hearts of flesh and ultimately points to its fulfillment of Jesus Christ.
We also see the imagery of Rachel weeping for her children who had been exiled because of their disobedience and turning away from God. Yet even in the midst of sorrow, God promises hope for the future.
Jeremiah closes the chapter by describing the borders of the restored Jerusalem in verses 38-40. From north to west are the Tower of Hananel ("God is gracious") and the Corner Gate. From west to south are the Hill of Gareb and Goah. The boundaries also include the Valley of dead bodies and Ashes, the Brook Kidron, and the Horse Gate. Places once associated with uncleanness, death, idolatry, and warfare are all included within the city that God declares holy to Himself.
What a beautiful picture of the New Covenant. God redraws the map of our lives so that no broken place is left outside His redeeming grace. By His mercy, He takes the places once marked by shame, sin, death, and sorrow and transforms them into testimonies of his holiness and victory.
God's mercies are new every morning, and His love is never-ending. When we seek the Lord with all that is within us, we find refreshment from the burdens and cares of this life. When we rely on the strength of the Lord rather than our own, we find that He will sustain us and satisfy us. Relationship and fellowship with our Creator is the only way not to grow weary in this world, and His love is the only way to true satisfaction in this life. When we live according to His will and His purpose, He refreshes the weary, satisfies the faint, and faithfully sustains His children.
