The Sugar Creek Ward of the Rogers Arkansas Stake was featured in LDS Living this week! If you ever have the opportunity to listen to this fantatsic group of musicians play, you won't be disappointed!

Just before Christmas 2023, Bishop Brady Blake woke up with the thought that his ward needed an orchestra. Not just any orchestra, but an orchestra comprised of the talented ward youth.

In January, stake leadership members from the Bentonville, Fort Smith, Rogers, and Springdale stakes visited the Arkansas State Capitol to meet with government officials.

Elder C. Alan Gauldin served as chaplain of the day offering the opening prayer in the Senate, and Elder Eric D. Bendar did likewise for the House of Representatives.

The purpose of this visit was to apply ministering principles as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with state legislators and the Governor and to continue to bring the church out of obscurity by offering resources to help address maternal health and childhood hunger in our state and other areas of needed service. Gratitude was expressed by the Governor and leaders for the work that has been accomplished by the church and it's members so far in the state of Arkansas.

It was an amazing experience to see and feel the light of Christ as leaders worked to strengthen relationships and testify of Christ through love and service for our fellow men and women.

"And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness"

Northwest Arkansas is a special place, and this week's efforts to lift and serve and love your next door neighbor are just one example. “We appreciate the efforts by so many to reach out and serve your neighbor. … This is a wonderful time to unite our community and neighborhoods in serving one another,” Bentonville Arkansas Stake President Paul Van Slooten said in a news release from the Church’s North America Southeast Area.

At least 12 tornadoes killed eight people, destroyed homes and left thousands without power during the weekend of May 25. In the aftermath, Latter-day Saints came together to clean up and help those in need.

On April 23rd, Elder Ahmad Corbitt of the North America Southeast presidency and Elder Alan Gauldin of the area seventy leadership accompanied by stake presidents, stake relief society presidents, and stake communication directors from across Arkansas gathered in Little Rock to meet with the governor and state legislators. The purpose of these meetings was to build bridges, share our desire to serve our brothers and sisters, and to express genuine appreciation for the public service rendered by these officials. As part of this day at the capitol, Elder Corbitt and Elder Gauldin were able to present Governor Sanders with a compilation of her genealogy and discuss pressing welfare issues in the state. In addition to these meetings, Elder Gauldin was invited to offer the prayer to open the House of Representatives session for the day. Representatives Jon Eubanks and Carlton Wing also provided an opportunity for stake leaders to be presented in both the House and Senate chambers.

Saturday morning officially began the construction on the newest church building for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northwest Arkansas.

Collaborating with our city partners in Centerton and Bentonville, the select geographical Ward Councils joined the stake presidency in a small and simple program, launching the upcoming construction and a ground breaking.

Church buildings have great spiritual significance. Alma 6:6 reads “The children of God were commanded that they should gather themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of souls.”

President Van Slooten has said, “This building will be many things:
1. House of Worship… make and renew covenants with Jesus Christ through sacred ordinances such as sacrament, baptism, confirmation
2. Gathering Place… meet together…and a place for youth to gather
3. Sanctuary… find refuge from distractions and challenges of the world
4. Teach & Learn… gain an increased understanding of Jesus Christ and his teachings”

There was a specific message from
Bentonville’s Mayor Orman who said she is blessed to know many members. And one thing she is grateful for is how they “serve and engage in their communities.” In addition, the building itself will benefit the community, providing opportunities for outreach, service projects, and building relationships with neighbors.

The building will serve multiple wards and be ready for use in approximately one year. The building will be home to the Arkansas Bentonville Mission.

Updates regarding the construction progress will be shared periodically on stake pages.
