Ozark Baptist

Ozark Baptist Ozark Baptist Church is a gathering of sinners who have been redeemed through faith in Christ by the grace of God for the glory of God.

Our mission is to exalt Christ by equipping his people to engage all peoples with the hope of the gospel. We meet each Sunday at 10:30 AM in Bentonville, AR. Location: 500 SE 18th St

When we gather, you can expect to sing, pray, read, see, and hear God’s Word. Our hope for your time with us is that you would come to see the beauty of Christ with greater clarity and experience the glory of our great God as you hear the truth found in his Word.

Enjoyment is not the gain from your toil, but the gift of God in your toil. As Solomon says, enjoying our activities is our reward in this life. We enjoy God’s gifts most when we enjoy him most of all. Each gift from his hand points us further up and further in, to the Giver of every good and perfect gift, whose fullness is unfleeting and whose love is everlasting.

We can trust God’s timing with every season, because in the fullness of time God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons (Gal. 4:4-5). When Jesus began his ministry, what were the first words out of his mouth in the Gospel of Mark but that “the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

And for those of us who have, we know that Christ’s death for the ungodly like us happened at the right time (Rom. 5:6), because God has revealed the mystery of his will that he purposed in Christ as a plan for the right time – to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth.

It’s this good news that is the foundation of our lives in every season of our lives. It reminds us that even in our toil, the tapestry of our life has been woven into his plan of redemption from before time even began.

The seasons and occasions of your life are not a random series of events with no purpose behind them. No, each is divinely-crafted by God as he weaves the strands of your life to fit beautifully together at the right time.

In this fallen world, you may not see how a time to weep fits with a time to embrace or how a time to tear down fits with a time to love, but it does according to God’s beautiful plan for your life. And God only weaves beautiful tapestries.

Now it may not feel like it’s beautiful when you’re weeping or mourning or tearing down. But you can trust that it is because the God who is not bound by time makes everything fit together beautifully in its appropriate time by acting within time for your eternal good.

As we consider Ecclesiastes 3, the author teaches us that there is clearly a time for everything. But behind it all is not some impersonal force with no ability to care how things end up like our culture believes. But who’s behind it all is the God who created you and is working every occasion of your life, the good, the bad, and everything in between, toward a good and beautiful goal that exists beyond death itself.

Your life is a gift made beautiful in its time by God, so enjoy it.

Spend more time increasing your joy by filling yourself up with the knowledge of Christ; his flawless character, his trustworthy promises, his sacrificial actions done in love on our behalf. His word is the knowledge inherently worth having.

The wisdom literature of the Bible tells us to get knowledge and understanding. But we don’t have to run away from it just because grief increases. Our joy can increase as well. As it’s been said, “In Jesus Christ this “vexing” knowledge is a treasure chest of precious jewels.” (John Piper).

So brothers and sisters, might you put your phone down more often in order to pull up those jewels of joy? After all, Human wisdom can’t gain you the good life, but Christ can.

Parents, God has given you the gift of children. But sadly we can look to our kids for gain when we live vicariously through their achievements or use them for emotional fulfillment that we don’t find from a spouse. We can speak about our children as “my world.” And this has devastating consequences not only on the parent who may fear losing their child but also on children feeling the burden of carrying the emotional needs of a parent.

So how do we receive our children as a gift? Not by treating them as if they’re our possessions or projects. They’re God’s gift to us. And we hold that gift with open hands knowing it will come and go as the Lord sees fit. They say that “the days are long but the years are short” in parenting. So don’t wish those years away, but be grateful for the time you have. And let that gratitude toward God allow you to be generous in love toward them.

Friends, everything will never be enough to fully satisfy you, because only Christ can. He is the only gift of God who is also simultaneously our great gain.

Work is toilsome. It’s frustrating. But work is not a result of the Fall. It’s part of God’s original design and purpose for us. It’s one of his gifts to us that we can enjoy no matter how uneventful and mundane our work may be.

But when it comes from God’s hand, then we get to taste and see his goodness through it. If there is no good apart from God, then work is an expression of his goodness to us. So when we enjoy the gift of work, we’re enjoying the God who gave it to us, because“God himself is the gift within all gifts.” as it’s been said.

So brothers and sisters, instead of looking around at your work and wondering if that’s all there is to it. We can set our hope on God in our work, knowing that he’s the one who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.

Brothers and sisters, do you see how the gospel relates to God’s discipline and relentless mercy toward us as his children?

Because of the gospel, God now relates to us as a loving Father. One who disciplines his children not as an act of condemnation but restoration. One who pursues us as an act of mercy without compromising justice. The gospel reshapes how we think about suffering and correction as a result of sin. The author of Hebrews says that “the Lord disciplines the one he loves and punishes every son he receives” (Heb. 12:6).

Discipline is not an act of judgment but an act of love and mercy. For us in Christ, God’s discipline trains us in holiness.

Though Solomon failed to be a New Adam to create a New Eden, Christ doesn’t. What’s remarkable is that when you look at this text in Ecclesiastes at the conceptual level of our points; pleasure or joy, achievement, and possession. We see that Jesus went on a similar quest!

Hebrews 12:2 tells us that Jesus looked at the cross and its accomplishment as the joy that lay before him. And that joy came through achieving our salvation by his death so that through his resurrection we may become his possession, as God’s children, through faith.

Brothers and sisters, everything is never enough to satisfy us, because Christ is our gain!

Friends, it is our joy to introduce Colby Harper, our new assistant pastor over youth and groups. Colby spent the last seven years as a church member at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, AR, with four of those years serving as a pastoral assistant over youth ministry. Colby grew up in Crossett, AR, met the love of his life (Jessica) in college, and they have been married for the past eight years. In his kindness, God has blessed the Harpers with two precious kiddos.

Colby’s prayer is that our students at OBC will know Jesus, grow in Jesus, and find that the Christian life is also the “corporate life” lived out in the context of the local church. Colby and Jess desire to walk alongside parents in a pivotal stage in their child’s lives by equipping them to be the primary disciple-makers in the home.

In OBC student ministry, we want the Word of God to take center stage and inform everything that we seek to foster: teaching the Word, praying the Word, singing the Word, fellowship around the Word, and friendships built around that Word. Colby loves spending time with his family, watching Razorback and Raiders football (hard life), reading, cooking, and gazing at his cologne collection in all of its glory.

Jessica and Colby are beyond excited to fold their lives into the lives of members at Ozark Baptist Church. We are so blessed to have them.
