The Book of Revelation is not plural, as in "revelations". It is the singular revelation of the unveiled Christ, the risen and reigning Savior who is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. As the old song goes, "Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay." We urge you to take a few minutes and focus on Jesus.

LEARNING GOD'S WAYS

A young man was walking the floor and wringing his hands. When asked what was wrong, he replied, "I am in a hurry but God is not!"

Years ago, Norvel Hayes was in the car with me as I was driving all the law allows to get back to church to begin the night service after we made a late afternoon hospital visit to pray for a man in critical condition. He reminded me, "God is eternal. He is never in a hurry!"

But we are creatures of time, and we react in different ways. Sometimes we rush ahead of God, and other times we lag behind and miss the opportunity of the open door God has set before us. What we should do is "walk WITH God" and "learn His ways." Psalm 103:7 says, "He made known to Moses His WAYS and His ACTS unto the children of Israel."

We don't have to search out God's ways; He makes His ways known to those who walk with Him.

When we begin to learn God's ways, we will come to know that He is a God of variety. He is never in a rut, and He will always do the right thing at just the right time.

For instance, in answering prayer: One time He may answer instantly and the next time He may delay. At times it can be a long delay. We are prone to misread His delays and interpret them to be denials. But when we learn His ways, we find He is often teaching us to add patience to our faith.

We learn that God is in the business of child-rearing. God is a Father, not a grandfather. He does not spoil His children. He will correct and chasten them for their own good. He reveals His ways to us in His Word and, if we are listening, we won't have to learn them through outward chastening.

God is more interested in our Character than our Comfort. Why? He is conforming us to the image of Christ, and He loves us too much to let us miss it. That is just His way!

This short 4-part teaching was the last set of teaching posts that Dr. Parish wrote. Please take these words of wisdom to heart and put them into practice in your life.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD"S WILL (Part 1)
"Revealed In The Word"

A man said to a pastor: "I am a Spirit-filled Christian, a member of a Spirit-filled church, and I want to know if it is the will of God for me to divorce my wife and marry the woman I am living with."
The pastor answered, "Let's get one thing straight -- you are not filled with the HOLY Spirit."

The Will of God is not some mysterious hidden secret God is keeping from us, or something that only a pastor would know. The Will of God is plainly spelled out in the Word of God.

The Bible is filled with Promises, Commandments, and Principles, and in them we will find the Will of God clearly stated and many times explained. When we read the word with an open mind, with a pure motive to understand in order to do His will, we will find God's Will every time.

The man who came to the pastor asking about the will of God didn't actually want to know God's will, he wanted to ease his conscience by getting the pastor to approve of what he already knew was a sin.

When we are willing to DO God's Will, we will find it -- written on page after page in the Bible.

Jesus said, "If any man will DO His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."
(John 7:17)

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD'S WILL (Part 2)

God has promised to hear us when we pray in His will.
"And this is the confidence we have in Him, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." (I John 5:14)

We know that if He hears us, we have the answer to our prayer.
"And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him." (I John 5:15)
We learn from these scriptures that the key to getting our prayers answered is to pray In The Will Of God. If we are not getting our prayers answered it may be that we are not praying in His will. The question just begging for an answer is: How do I find God's will? The answer: God's will is found in His Word!

For example: we find in the Word that the salvation of souls is God's will. "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (II Peter 3:9).

If your prayers are not being answered or you don't know what to pray for: pray according to these scriptures.
*God will hear and answer when you pray in His will.
*God's Word says His will is to save the lost.
*Start praying specifically for the lost you want to be saved.
*Pray with confidence (faith) that God will hear and answer.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD'S WILL (Part 3)
"Our Sanctification Is God's Will"

"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you should abstain from fornication." (I Thessalonians 4:3).

Sanctification means to be "Set Apart." It has two sides to it--we are Set Apart FROM something and Set Apart TO something. We are to be Set Apart TO God and Set Apart FROM Sin.

In the context of this scripture we see that Paul is writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the Church at Thessalonica on "How you ought to walk and please God" (Verse 1).
He went on to say "That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor; not in the lust of conscience, even as the gentiles who know not God."
(Verses 4-5).

One Sunday a nice looking, well-dressed couple who had moved into our area came to visit our church. They sat on the front row and participated in the worship and seemed to be enjoying the service. I was in the middle of teaching a series of messages on The Christian Home. That particular message in the series was an emphasis on faithfulness. I said there is absolutely no place in a Godly marriage for unfaithfulness. I soundly denounced fornication, adultery, premarital s*x, extramarital relationships, homos*xuality -- ALL s*x outside of marriage and gave scriptures for every point that I made.

The visiting couple made a beeline to me as soon as we said the last Amen. They told me they liked our worship service but disagreed with my message. They were not married and had been living together several months and felt it was alright to do so because they loved one another. They would like to attend our church, but they would have to look for some other church unless I would change my views on marriage. I told them we were happy to have them attend and sit on the front row every service, but there would be no change in the preaching or where we stood on the subject. We would continue to say what the Bible says about marriage and all other subjects.

Discounting what is written in the Word and setting our own standards according to how we feel about a matter is the sure way to never find God's will.

God's Will is found in God's Word! They go hand in hand and never contradict one another.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD'S WILL (Part 4)
"Permissive Or Perfect?"

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not Conformed to this world: but be you Transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that Good, and Acceptable, and Perfect Will of God." (Romans 12: 1-2).

We have often heard people speak of being in the Permissive Will of God. And some of them say it with a good bit of pride as though it was some kind of an accomplishment. If we stop and reflect a bit it should become clear to us that being in God's Permissive Will is not really very flattering -- God even Permits the devil -- at least for awhile. God permitted the devil to attack Job. I don't want to live and minister in the same category as the devil.

Surely there is something better. Yes, there is -- it is called the Perfect Will of God! Perfect? That sounds like a high bar for me. Can I really find God's Perfect Will? Yes, and the scripture quoted above tells us how.

There is a Positive and a Negative:
1) Do Not be CONFORMED to the world.
2) Do Be TRANSFORMED by the Renewing of your Mind.

Conformed means to be "molded into a pattern." Do not let the world mold you into its pattern. The world is that part of human society that stands opposed to God.

Transformed has the idea of metamorphosis -- such as the little caterpillar is changed into the beautiful butterfly. We, too, are changed into Christlikeness by the renewing of our minds.

When we take seriously and act on the Word and
1. Present our bodies as a living sacrifice, and
2. Renew our minds in the word of God, we will
3. Find the Perfect will of God.
