Church family - here is a short devotion based on this morning's message. As we prepare to celebrate Pentecost next week, I wanted to talk a little bit about communities of faith.
In the early days of the church, believers were learning what it meant to truly follow Jesus together. Acts 2:42 gives us a simple but powerful picture of their lives:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
The word “devoted” stands out. They were not casual believers. They were committed. They made time for God and for one another. Their faith was not something they visited once a week—it was the center of their lives.
The early Christians devoted themselves to four important things:
God’s Word — They wanted to learn and grow. They listened carefully to the teaching about Jesus. In a world full of confusion, they held tightly to truth.
Fellowship — They did life together. They encouraged each other, shared burdens, celebrated victories, and stood together during hard times.
Breaking Bread — This was more than eating meals. It was remembering Christ together. Around tables, hearts were opened and relationships were strengthened.
Prayer — Prayer was not their last option; it was their first response. They depended on God daily.
Our world today is busy, distracted, and disconnected. Many people feel spiritually exhausted and emotionally isolated. But Acts 2:42 reminds us that spiritual strength grows when we stay devoted to the right things.
A healthy faith does not happen by accident. It grows through daily choices—opening the Bible when you are tired, praying when you are worried, gathering with other believers when life gets busy, and remembering Jesus in both ordinary and sacred moments.
God never intended for us to walk this journey alone. He calls us into a community of faith where we can grow, serve, and worship together.
Next Sunday is Pentecost - the day we celebrate the birth of the church. I hope you will all join us (oh - and wear red if you have it!) Blessings - PK
