Oh Lord, we live our live trying not to make people upset. We think that living with other people means turning a blind eye to sinful behavior. Yet, in your Word you say something different. You want us to live at peace with others EXCEPT when sinful behavior is taking place. When we see sin, you not only tell us to confront and correct that sinful behavior, you tell us it is the most loving thing that we can do for someone's soul. Help us to see the difference between true love for someone that wants them to be in heaven and the love that accepts and even promotes sin that separates from God and leads to hell. Give us the strength to share your message with others and turn hearts to you in repentance.

Oh Lord, so often we think that being a believer is supposed to solve all of our problems and make life comfortable. We want your words and promises to bring great monetary blessings, success and a comfortable life. When we think that, we aren't listening to what you say in your Word. In your Word, you remind us that life is not going to be easy, especially life as a Christian. You remind us to be ready for the troubles, trials and sin in life not by being emotionally or physically strong, but by being spiritually strong. You want us to dig into your Word and grow in faith so that we see that you bring the answer to the most important problem, the problem of sin. The answer to sin is not in an amazing comfortable life, it is in a Savior who has taken away sin and given a place in heaven. Help us to grow in faith that we might be strong enough to face any problem of life trusting that your answer will lead us to your ultimate promise of heaven.

Oh Lord, we think that we are smart people who can do so much for ourselves. Yet, what we don't realize is how much we can't do for ourselves. Although we think we are in control of so many things, there are many more that our human body and intellect cannot control. One of those things that we think that we can do is save ourselves. We trust in ourselves and our own goodness to get to heaven instead of trusting in what you have done for us. When Jesus asked His disciples Who do you say I am?, He didn't want a smart answer filled with intellect and education. He wanted an answer of faith which proclaimed Him as the Lord over all and the only way to heaven. Help us to have this answer in our hearts and on our lips so that we trust in you for the thing that only you can give and do.

Oh Lord, so often we look at a person and make a decision that they either can believe or they cannot believe. We see the outward appearance or actions and think that the Gospel wouldn't work, it might even be wasted. We think that this person is an unlikely person to believe. What we don't realize is that of all the unlikely people in the world to believe, we are the most unlikely. We are filled with sinful thoughts, words and actions. We are not good people who are better than anyone, we are sinful people who need the help of a Savior. Build in us a faith that sees are sins, repents of our sins and knows the forgiveness that is ours through Jesus. Then help us to see each person as a soul that needs to hear the Good News that Jesus loves and saves unlikely people like you and me.

Oh Lord, we walk through life and think we have it all under control, until a problem comes. When that problem comes it is not you that forgets about us, it is us that forgets about you. Sometimes we are so out of practice with prayer and worship that we forget to look to you, sometimes we are so blind with anger that we don't want to admit that you are Lord, sometimes we are so paralyzed with fear that we do nothing. Remind us that you are never far away. You are always working in your love and compassion to see us through the trouble and trial in our life. Lead us to understand that you have an eternal plan for us that includes more than just this little moment of time, it includes our life and eternal life. Lead us to the joy of the Gospel through which the Holy Spirit will build in us a faith that clings to you even in the storms of life.

Oh Lord, so often we think that coming to faith is a chance that we can miss. It was there, but now it is gone. We think about friends and neighbors who do not believe and wonder what happened. Yet, in your Word you give us a reminder that you allow believers and unbelievers to live side by side for a reason. It is not so that unbelievers will infect others by their unbelief, it is so that believers will continue to share the Word of God and affect unbelievers. The Holy Spirit can and does call out to all people, even unbelievers through His Word. He reminds people that there is a God through nature around them, He orders events in the world, He even showers blessings on all people. God graciously gives us this time of grace, the days we live, to come to faith in Him and to share that faith with others.
