UU Women and Religion

UU Women and Religion Women and Religion is a grassroots project started by lay leaders in the 1970s to promote examination of religious roots of sexism within the UUA.

The Women and Religion Movement is alive and well in the 21st Century. It exists in UU Districts that hold Women & Religion programs and woman-focused gatherings. It exists at General Assembly, where UUW&R has an annual gathering and a booth in the display area. And it lives in the hearts and lives of people who have been touched by the many changes inspired by this movement. "We do not want a piece of the pie. It is still a patriarchal pie. We want to change the recipe!" -- Rosemary Matson

Discover the incredible journey of Six Divine Matriarchs as they valiantly protect and nurture their lands and communities. These powerful women and femmes are safeguarding seeds, reclaiming ancestral knowledge, and performing decolonial birth work, among many other vital roles. 💐

“Indigenous women have long held up our communities and brought us into the future. And yet, due to colonization, the value and contributions of our Indigenous matriarchs have also gone vastly unacknowledged though our excellence and necessity to our people and our nations is undeniable.”

Women are protectors. Women are creatives. Women are leaders. We always have been.

May all of Indian Country continue to show up for our matriarchs and give them the flowers they truly deserve. 🌸
