Living in the Light of Forgiveness
We are called to live as Jesus did. He set the perfect example for us to duplicate/replicate. In each instance of His life Jesus showed grace, mercy and care to those that the world deemed not worthy, this includes us. Shouldn't we also practice this type of living?
Forgiveness is easily said but often has deep roots. Asking Holy Spirit to help remove that root is the key. Many times it takes us being deliberate to see that it doesn’t come back up when we meditate on it.
God’s Forgiveness for us
Psalms 103:1-18 NLT
Highlights:
Verse 8 - The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Verse 10-12 - He does not punish us for all our sins, He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west
When we don’t forgive someone or just go through the motions, it is not the person we haven’t forgiven who suffers, it is most likely us. It is to our own benefit to forgive those who have done us wrong.
Colossians 3:1-17 NLT - Our calling to forgive and to live
Because we know that Jesus is really raised from the dead, then our identification with Him becomes real. It is only because we were raised with Christ that we can seek those things which are above (including supernatural forgiveness)
2 Corinthians 2:5-13 NLT
Paul displays real pastoral wisdom and compassion. He refers to a specific person among the Corinthians, but he does not name the man. Certainly, this man is happy his name was not recorded in God’s eternal word.
Their harsh stance towards this man had a real danger: By withholding restoration and forgiveness from the man they risked ruining him, causing him to be swallowed up with too much sorrow.
Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him: Since the man responded to the correction and repented, it was time for love and healing. They needed to reaffirm their love to him
