The Mount of Provision

Scripture: Genesis 22:1-14
Key Verse: "So Abraham called that place 'The Lord Will Provide.'" — Genesis 22:14

Quick Reflection

Genesis 22 contains one of the most intense requests in the Bible: God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac—the very child God promised him. It makes no sense on the surface.
Yet, Abraham obeys. As they walk up the mountain, Isaac notices they are missing something and asks, "Where is the lamb?" Abraham answers with profound faith: "God himself will provide."
At the final, breathless second, God stops Abraham's hand and points to a ram caught in the thicket. Abraham names the place Yahweh-Yireh—The Lord Will Provide (literally, "The Lord will see to it").
Why this matters for us today:
Centuries later, on this exact same mountain ridge, God provided His own Son, Jesus, as the ultimate sacrifice for us. Abraham’s story reminds us that God’s provision is rarely visible at the bottom of the mountain. It is found when we take steps of obedience and trust Him with the things we love.

Prayer:

Lord, it is hard to release control. Give us the faith of Abraham today. Help us to trust that you already see our tomorrows and that Your provision is already waiting for us. Amen.
