Guys. You will not believe this.

We totaled up our donations today, and we are within a DOLLAR of our goal. With the help of our amazing community and friends and local churches we have raised $4050 for the food pantry at Henderson Settlement.

2:18 Missions will be filling a trailer up with flour, sugar, and oil at the Litchfield Aldi this week and will transport it to the settlement next weekend.

Philippians 4:19 says “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” And boy, did he do that. If you need a reason to believe in God today, here it is.

Over 15 years ago a group from the Methodist Church in Gillespie responded to a need in the community. People were needing home repairs, but weren’t financially able to hire someone to help. We stepped in.

We are still here if you need services and can’t financially pay for them. Please contact us.

We have done soffit repair, siding repair, step and porch repair, and ramps to name just a few. In Gillespie, Mt. Olive, Bunker Hill, Benld, Staunton, Carlinville and beyond. We really enjoy being able to help. We enjoy meeting new people and we actually like to hang out with each other. Which is a plus.

For years we also have taken on projects in the Appalachian mountains for people who are in the same situations as those we help at home. We love the people of Appalachia and we love their stories.

We also do food drives twice a year to get them the things we take for granted here at home. Sugar, flour and oil. They have a truck that provides food for the pantry, but those three items are too hard to get.

To put it into perspective, we have a Casey’s every two miles here. To get to civilization from where we provide supplies in the mountains is over an hour either way if you have the transportation, with small little understocked convenience (?) stores scattered about sparingly.

We will be leaving to stock their pantry with your generous contributions in a little over a week. We are so grateful for everything you’ve donated. We are really close to our goal and I would love to obliterate that thermometer. Again, we are so thankful for your support through the years. Wow. God is good all the time. We got more donations from individuals this week, but also received donations from a couple of churches who have come together to help us raise even more for the people at the Henderson Settlement. We’re in the last week now, and we’re getting close to our goal! Check back next week and see how we end up.

"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6.

2:18 Missions shows the light and love of Christ through their service projects locally and in the most poverty stricken area of the Appalachains. But is there something as important happening? These pictures show the next generation learning to serve, to be the hands and feet of Christ, and to think of others before self. The youngest members of 2:18 Missions don't understand poverty nor have they visited Frakes, KY. But they are learning that because we have been so greatly blessed, we can be a blessing to others. The attached pictures show our kids hammering nails, working cookouts, and loading the trailer with the food drive staples. No matter their efforts they are learning "to think outside the box of me".

If you have been following 2:18 Missions, you are familiar with their outreach. We are nearing the final week of the fall food drive. Every $8.50 will purchase a bundle of flour, sugar, and oil for every family the Henderson Settlement serves. EVERY donation is greatly appreciated. We sincerely thank you for your support and prayers. Truly, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" Acts 20:35.

Sometimes we overlook the simple things or take for granted what we do multiple time every day without ever thinking about it. We have been blessed to help families and individuals get out of their home for the first time in months, or longer, by building them a small landing & stairs or a wheelchair accessible ramp.

If you or someone you know needs a ramp or stairs to be able to get in and out of the home safely, please contact us. Part of our mission is to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in a way that helps our community and the families that live here. We would love the opportunity to look at your project.

They say if you know, then you know!
That's the assumption we all too often make.
The members of the 2:18 Missions Team have been conducting a Food drive for the Henderson Settlement food Pantry twice a year, for over a decade now. I have been asked more times than I can count, why do we need worry about someone so far away. Well, the short answer is they need our help, flour, sugar and cooking oil are items not normally available to food pantries through the food banks like God's Pantry, in Lexington, KY. These items are among food staples that most of us don't even think of, as they are readily available to us.
Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY. serves a 4-county area and is located in the heart of Bell County in the Appalachian Mountains. Bell County, Kentucky is among the poorest 3% of counties in the United States when measured by the percentage of residents living below the federal poverty line.
But that's not even the real reason, we are called to do this! In the story of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) Jesus asked the question, who is your neighbor? Our neighbor is anyone in need that we have the ability to help!
No, we can't solve all the world's problems by ourselves, but we can make a difference in one family's life by donating $8.50 for a bag of Flour, Bag of Sugar and Bottle of Cooking Oil.
How do we change the world, by taking care of our neighbor's!
