Grace Lutheran Church

Grace Lutheran Church A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we are people who are redeemed sinners, gathered to serve God and our neighbors.

We meet to worship God every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., Wednesdays during Lent and festivals as announced. Grace Lutheran Church is Biblical, sacramental, liturgical, mission-oriented, traditional, community-minded, gracious, warm and inviting. We love noisy kids in worship and welcome folks who haven't been here--or anywhere-- in a while. We are not perfect people with all the answers, but we are a co

mmunity of redeemed sinners gathered together by God and learning to live our name: "Grace." We worship in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and are busy following Jesus and inviting others to know Him, too.

May 31 commemorates the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to her cousin, Elizabeth. This meeting of two pregnant women is filled with prophetic significance. Mary’s prophetic statement that “all generations” would call her “blessed” was first realized when she was greeted by Elizabeth. Both women bore children in their wombs whose births had been prophesied. The Prophet Malachi had said, centuries before, that Elizabeth’s son, John the Baptist, was to “prepare the way of the Lord.” John, it was prophesied, would “be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb” (Luke 1:15).

Even before his birth, Scripture records that John began to fulfill this prophetic mission. As Elizabeth greeted Mary, John sensed the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb and proclaimed the coming of the Messiah by leaping in Elizabeth’s womb.

In response to these significant events, Mary proclaimed her hymn, “The Magnificat” (“My soul magnifies the Lord,” Luke 1:42-45). This hymn continues to be sung by Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Lutherans and many other Chrisians every day at Evening Prayer.

Almighty God, by whose grace Elizabeth rejoiced with the blessed Virgin Mary and greeted her as the mother of the Lord: Look with favor on your lowly servants, that, with Mary, we may magnify your holy Name and rejoice to acclaim her Son as our Savior; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy Father, holy Son,
Holy Spirit, Three we name thee,
Though in essence only one,
Undivided God we claim thee;
And adoring bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.

Emblem of the Holy Trinity from English artist AWN Pugin’s “Glossary of Ecclesiastical Ornament and Costume” (1868). The three outer red symbols contain the Latin words “Father,” “Son” and “Holy Spirit” connected to each other by “non est,” meaning “is not.” All three are connected to the center red symbol, which says “God,” by the word “is,” thus illustrating that the three Persons of the Trinity are distinct from each other, but are all three God.
At the bottom, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
