Church family,
The last couple of weeks of snow and ice have kept us from gathering the way we normally do, and that’s been hard. We miss one another. But as we walk through the Gospel of John together, we’re being reminded again and again that Jesus meets people right where they are—often in moments that are inconvenient, uncertain, or unexpected.
John’s Gospel is all about revealing who Jesus truly is, and seasons like this help us see Him more clearly.
GATHER — We Come to the Light, Wherever We Are
John opens by telling us:
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. (John 1:4)
Even when we can’t gather in one physical space, we are still drawn together by the same Light. Jesus is not confined to a building. He meets us in living rooms, kitchens, and quiet moments as the world slows down outside.
As creation rests under snow and ice, we’re reminded that the One who created it all is still present and active. When we lift our eyes to Him—even from a distance—we are still gathering around Christ.
GO — We Bear Witness to What We’ve Seen
One of John’s key themes is testimony—people encountering Jesus and then pointing others to Him.
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. (John 1:14)
Even when travel is limited, our calling to bear witness is not. We “go” when we live in a way that reflects the grace and truth we’ve received from Jesus. That may look like patience instead of frustration, kindness instead of complaint, or checking on others when routines are disrupted.
In John, belief always leads to response. What we’ve seen of Jesus shapes how we live—right where we are.
GROW — We Learn to Trust the One Who Is Always at Work
Later in John, Jesus says:
“My Father is always working, and so am I.” (John 5:17)
Even when life feels paused, God is still working. These interruptions invite us to grow in trust—not in our schedules or plans, but in the steady presence of Christ.
Growth happens as we learn to rely on Jesus more deeply, listen more closely, and rest more fully in who He is. John keeps calling us back to this truth: life is found in Him.
So even in this season:
We Gather by coming to the Light of Christ.
We Go by bearing witness to what we’ve seen and experienced.
We Grow as we learn to trust Jesus more fully in every circumstance.
And when we gather again soon, we’ll do so with renewed gratitude—reminded that the same Jesus we study in John is the One who has been with us all along.
