One of the most striking stories in the Bible is found in the days of King David.

When David decided to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem, the procession was filled with celebration, music, and excitement. Everything looked spiritual and successful on the surface.

Then suddenly, the oxen stumbled, and a man named Uzzah stretched out his hand to steady the Ark. Instantly, he died.

For years, I wondered why.

Then I realized something profound:

Uzzah died not because he hated God, but because he became too familiar with holy things.

The Ark had been in his father’s house for years. What was sacred had become common to him.

And that is one of the greatest dangers in life.

People lose their wonder.

A husband becomes familiar with his wife.
A wife becomes familiar with her husband.
Children become familiar with their parents.
Citizens become familiar with opportunities.
Believers become familiar with God’s presence.

Many things are not lost because they are taken away.

They are lost because they are no longer valued.

The greatest enemy of gratitude is familiarity.

Never become so accustomed to a blessing that you stop appreciating it.

What you take for granted today may be the very thing someone else is praying for.

Sometimes the miracle is not receiving more.

Sometimes the miracle is recognizing the value of what you already have.
