THIS is the church 💙

People loving people. Serving without being asked. Showing up when it matters. Worshiping together. Growing together.

The church isn't a building - it's a family. It's a community of imperfect people united by the perfect love of Jesus. THIS is the church!

What if the obstacle in front of you is actually an opportunity to grow?

We often pray for God to change our circumstances, but what if He's using those circumstances to change us? The lessons we refuse to learn today often become the lessons we face again tomorrow. When challenges come, the real question isn't, "Why is this happening to me?" but rather, "What is God trying to teach me through this?"

Remind yourself of this:

No matter what you’re facing, there’s hope in His Word! What if the very thing you’re worried about is the place where God is asking you to trust Him most? His promises are still bigger than anxiety, stronger than doubt, and greater than fear. God is faithful yesterday, today, and forever 🙌🏽

We’ve been loving Summer on the Patio 🫶🏾

There’s something special about gathering together, enjoying delicious food, sharing conversations, and building community outside our church walls. These moments remind us how good it is to do life together as a church family!

Please join us in praying for the Philippines following the recent earthquake 🇵🇭

As the Body of Christ, we stand with our brothers and sisters who are facing uncertainty, loss, and disruption. We pray for God's protection over affected communities, comfort for those who are afraid, strength for those serving others, and wisdom for leaders and emergency responders.

What if we chose compassion over comparison? What if we saw people the way God sees them? What if loving like Jesus means loving beyond our comfort zones?

God created EVERY person with value, purpose, and dignity. He is a God of diversity, and His love reaches far beyond the labels we place on people.

May we be a church known for compassion, grace, and the way we love others 💙

Gifted Service
"We believe when we partner together by leveraging our time, talent, and treasures, we can best represent Jesus to the world."
Our fourth value is Gifted Service. To me, this one is exciting because it is not limited. It applies to everyone because everyone is gifted with something! Just last Sunday we walked through the third of our 4D's - Define, in which we evaluated our lives to help identify where we may be gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve. Click the link below if you'd like to check out the assessment we used in class.
One of the cool things about knowing Jesus is hearing the stories of His exploits throughout history. One of which we are only a few weeks away from celebrating (I'll let you guess which day that is) where people waved palm branches and celebrated His arrival with shouts. The big, bad Pharisees were not excited about it and wanted to shut them up, but Jesus said, "If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." HOW CRAZY IS THAT?! Jesus can use a rock to lift His praises - so why couldn't He use someone like me?
There is no limit to the good that can come from holding what we've been giving with an open hand. An open hand is used to receive a gift, it should be used to give gifts, and can be used for good things to flow through us towards others. Let us consider being the kind of people who are willing to jump in and make a difference whether it is something small like holding a door open or something big like speaking truth into the life of a friend who needs love. There are no small parts to play in the Kingdom of God because every step we take towards Him is a major victory over the schemes of the Enemy! We've got a job to do and we all have a part to play!

So let's get after it!

Core Values Pt. 3

Authentic Community

"We believe pursuing truth together is the best opportunity to discover and apply truth to life."

Our third value is Authentic Community - to me it is one of the most incredible aspects of being at ALIVE. In fact, authentic community is what my wife - Victoria and I spent the whole ride back to PA talking about when we came to visit before being hired on staff. The fact that a group of people live their lives openly and honestly is so refreshing in today's climate. When we are winning - we are all winning and celebrating together. When we are hurting - we are all hurting and pushing through together.
When we ask the question, "How are you doing?" it is followed up most often with the word, "Really?" The depth at which we learn to love and care for each other at ALIVE is in keeping with the stories we read in the Bible. Carrying each other's burdens, loving each other through the tough times, celebrating with each other, and correcting each other in love is living life in a beautifully, biblical way. We try our best to do this at ALIVE not just to say we do it, but to actually transform our communities by being all about it.

So let's do our best to live authentically every moment...

Relational Intimacy

"We believe no matter what we've done, we can have an intimate relationship with God by grace and through faith in Jesus."

This is the second of our Core Values. At ALIVE Pleasant View we have a phrase that we use quite often, "There's grace for that." It is normally used when a person speaks in error or owns up to a mistake and is said with a bit of a chuckle. The beautiful truth is that grace covers much more than small, innocent mix-ups. The grace that is extended to us by the Lord is greater than we could ever imagine. Have you ever heard someone say, "I can't go in there (the church building) or I'll get struck by lightning!" or "the place will burn down if I walk in." Have you heard that before? Me too. It breaks my heart in a big way. That kind of talk comes from a life that has never known, maybe never even heard of legitimate grace being extended.
If we are still searching for a response to the phrase Tom presented to us last week, "I exist to..." maybe we could consider rewriting people's perspective on grace. You've heard it said, "To whom much is given, much is required." and it would make sense when it comes to finances, leadership, influence, responsibility, etc, but what about grace? Have you had a moment in life where you needed to receive an abundance of grace? I have... and it absolutely changed the way that I look at GIVING grace to others.
In this world we tend to have a mentality of fairness - What happens to me should happen to others! Grace disrupts that. What happens to me should be a learning experience for others so they don't have to experience what I did. The grace that Jesus offers us is exactly that - freedom from the weight of sin - no matter the severity - and a relationship. We sang the song "Covered" on Sunday morning and it says this, "No matter what I've done. No matter where I've been. No matter how I fall. You pick me up again. You have removed my shame. You take me as I am. You call me justified. Now I am covered by your grace."

God loves you and He wants to be your forever friend!

Core Values Part 1
Biblical Authority
"We believe the Bible is God's word and shows us the right way to do life, if we are willing to follow what it says is right and true."
This is the first of our Core Values for a reason. Here at ALIVE we put the Word of God first. There are four places that we pull truth from in life. The first in the list is the Bible - the Word of God - being the highest written source of inspiration should be treated as having extreme authority. The next would be tradition - what has been done in the past by others we align ourselves with? Following that we list reason - what makes sense? The last is experience - what have we seen for ourselves?
This is known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. That's a fun word to talk about a diamond. A lot of times the world will aim to create truth based on reason, experience, and tradition, but leave the scripture out of the picture. As Christians we know the Bible has the principles and lessons necessary to test and approve all situations that can arise in life.
So, even if an idea or mentality passes the reason, experience, and tradition checks, but fails scripture - we know it is not something to latch onto. Consequently, if something passes the scripture, experience, and reason checks, but is contrary to tradition (something like paying to escape Purgatory) - we can lock in on it. The same can be said to any of the three lesser points of the Quadrilateral. The key is to lock into Biblical Authority. When we put the Word of God first we will stand a better chance of following Him in the midst of a sticky situation. Life is still tough to understand at times, but that is why we stand alongside each other in community. So lean into the Word of God and your neighbor to be able to run this race with endurance!

Let's remember that we put the Word of God first!
