‘We no longer have churches in this country. What we have are country clubs for Jesus, where going to church is more about social status and fulfilling nostalgic family milestones than is about dying to self in order to live sacrificially for others; where people believe that if they have been baptized and confirmed, it doesn’t matter how often they show up for their fellow sisters and brothers in Christ, because they have obtained their get out of hell for free card. We no longer have churches in this country. What we have are heretical cults of Evangelicalism who are rebranding the capitalism and the consumerism of our times and are calling it the “Gospel of Jesus Christ.” We no longer have churches in this country. What we have are extensions of the Republican and the Democratic parties.’
