Congratulations to Eddy & Caroline Fortner who were recognized in Sunday worship yesterday as St.Mark’s “Laity Service Award” recipients for 2026. Yesterday was Laity Sunday in the UMC, and this award is given each year in local churches to honor a layperson or married couple whose exemplary service, faithful stewardship, and dedication have significantly enriched the ministry of the local church and the surrounding community.

The Fortner’s have helped lead two major St.Mark’s Yard Sales this year, raising thousands of dollars to supplement our giving and keep the church operations & ministries running. Caroline served as co-chair of the events, organizing details of managing, collection, sorting, communications, display, promotion & payment. Eddy helped manage the logistics such as signage, lighting & electrical, transport, and hauling large furniture items.

Caroline also accepted the role of Chair of United Methodist Women/United Women in Faith this year, and regularly assists with our new women’s group craft ministry called Diamond Art. Caroline and Eddy both have also been instrumental in promoting and helping celebrate our church’s efforts to replenish our Emergency Fund which was depleted this year due to emergency needs of our physical plant.

Thanks to our Lay Leader, Debbie Ensley, for coordinating the award process and helping me present to the Fortner’s. We also recognized Debbie as well for her leadership as Laity Leader of our church and Sunday School Teacher, along with her husband Ronnie Ensley who serves as Finance Chair leading us through challenging financial times, and who has also helped with many of the physical plant repairs we have had to do.
