Envy promises satisfaction. It never delivers.

This week we worked through Proverbs 24 and got honest about one of the most common sins nobody talks about. Envy. It feels internal, almost harmless. We scroll past someone’s house or career or relationship and think, it’s fine, I’m just looking. But Proverbs 14:30 tells us something we need to hear: envy makes the bones rot. It destroys from the inside out, and it doesn’t stop there. Left unchecked, it erodes relationships, corrodes community, and warps the way we see the gospel itself.

Here’s what struck us from Sunday. Envy and the gospel cannot coexist. Envy says “I deserve more.” The gospel says we deserve condemnation, and yet God gave us Christ anyway. That’s not a small thing. That’s everything. And when you’re actually gripped by that truth, contentment starts to grow where envy used to live.

The antidote to envy isn’t willpower. It’s a deeper look at what we already have in Christ. Watch or listen to this week’s sermon and let it do some honest work in your heart.

Meet Will Rawdon.

Will has called Exodus home for four years and is part of the Cramerton Community Group. On Sunday mornings, you'll most likely see him serving as an usher as part of the Connections Team or playing guitar as part of the Worship Team.

Will grew up in Northeast Ohio and studied Construction Engineering Technology at the University of Akron. One fun fact about him is that he loves backpacking in the mountains.

One of the things we love about Will is his willingness to joyfully serve in multiple capacities. While many people may never know his name, they've almost certainly benefited from his faithfulness.

If you see Will this Sunday, introduce yourself, thank him for serving, and ask him about his latest or next backpacking adventure. We'd love for our church to be a place where strangers become family.

Seven years ago today, we held our very first service in The Mill.

That morning, we showed this timelapse of the work it took to restore a 100-year-old mill and turn it into our church home.

Seven years later, we’re still incredibly grateful for this place and for all God has done here.

You never outgrow the call to honor your parents. Not at 16. Not at 34. Not at 54.

This week we worked through Proverbs 23:15-25 and landed on something that cuts across every age and stage of life. The Bible is clear that children honor God by honoring their parents, and none of us ever graduate from that calling. The command in Ephesians 6 to “honor your father and mother” doesn’t come with an expiration date.

That looks different depending on where you are in life. Maybe you’re a teenager who still has to obey and honor. Maybe you’re a college student who could stand to send a text that says thank you a little more often. Maybe you’re decades removed from home and there’s a relationship that needs a phone call or an apology long overdue. Wherever you are, the question Proverbs puts in front of us is worth sitting with: are you honoring God by honoring your parents?

If this hit close to home for you, the full message is up on our website. Share this with someone who needs the reminder, or tag a friend who’s in a season where this would mean something.
