As Captain Jack Sparrow closed in on his prize, Captain Hector Barbossa warned him, "You're off the edge of the map, mate. Here there be monsters!" Ancient cartographers would put something similar to warn sailors of the dangers of entering uncharted waters.

Mythical krakens aside, we will encounter numerous monsters on our life's journey. This world is full of them - not to mention the ones we make for ourselves. We could be eaten by them. We could join them. Or ... we could resist and overcome with God's help.

Join us this Sunday, 06/21/26 at 10:30, in-person or online at https://gastonchristian.church/watch as we continue the series, "Road Trip Rules" using the Psalms of Ascent as our guide. This Sunday's message will be, "Here There Be Monsters!" Please read Psalm 124 & 125.

"I like going places, I just don't like getting there." I know not everyone feels the same - some people like the journey more than the destination. But for other, all the other "stuff" - the packing, the preparation, the driving/traveling, the dealing with family and people - all that is more of a chore than a relaxing vacation. (Sorry if I just ruined it for you.)

I know some people who think the same way about this life. Don't get me wrong; Heaven IS an incredible destination and so worth looking forward to. But, we're not there yet. In fact, God has plenty for us to do in this life and He wants us to have joy right here, right now.

"Fish and friends stink after three days" or so the adage goes (my apologies to Benji Frank for not being verbatim). Maybe there was a time in your life when you thought of that saying - perhaps after some relatives or guests stayed a bit too long or maybe you have taken a trip with some friends and after a while were ready for a break.

Even in those moments, a good friend - stink and all - is still a good friend and will understand your need for space and a break without damaging the relationship.

But perhaps even more important is to have someone with you on your journey (I have now pivoted to our life's journey especially) who will stick with you no matter what, have your back, pick you up when you are down, sit silently by your side while you grieve ... who will be whoever and whatever you need in that moment. True friends like that are rare and special, but not perfect. There is One, however, Who Is.

Have you ever embarked on a journey ill prepared? I am not asking about a vacation trip, or exclusively about physical travel The journey may be a medical one, or perhaps getting married or having your first (or second ... or third) child. Of course, to some degree, no amount of preparation can fully get one ready for everything that will come our way.

Still, preparing for a journey is a good and wise thing to do. There's an old adage, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." How true that is for us when we try to journey through life without first making our plans through God.

Join us this Sunday, 05/31/26 at 10:30, in-person or online at https://gastonchristian.church/watch as we begin a new series, "Road Trip Rules" using the Psalms of Ascent as our guide. This Sunday's message will be, "Prepare for the Journey." Please read Psalm 120.

Who does the laundry in your house? What about the dishes? I bet you have house elves who come in at night while you are sleeping and take care of all that, right?

No, of course not. (Though I am sure some of your family members act like it all happens by magic!)

The same is true for the church. Somebody has to do all the things necessary to make everything run smoothly. God has given gifts to each one of us for the purpose of making His church better. Among those gifts are some of leadership and service.

Join us this Sunday, 05/24/26 at 10:30, in-person or online at https://gastonchristian.church/watch as we look at God's plan for the church and those who lead us with the message, "Shepherds, Servants, and Sheep" from Ephesians 4:11-16. We will also pray over and appoint a new Elder and two Deacons.
