St. Olaf Lutheran Church

St. Olaf Lutheran Church A congregation of Norwegian heritage in the NE Iowa Synod of the ELCA. In shared ministry with St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, IA. The St. H. C. St.

Olaf congregation was organized at the James Johnson schoolhouse in Norway Township on the 29th day of September 1888. By 1899 the church had become too small. Two additions were made: one to the east and one to the west, making the church, so far as outside looks are concerned, substantially as it is today. Enger of Belmond was the contractor who did the work. Knute Lien, a St. Olaf member and ca

rpenter, built our beautiful altar. Sara Kirkeberg Raugland, a sister-in-law of Knute, was commissioned to pain the altar painting. Olaf and Trinity Lutheran Church began sharing a pastor in 1917. John Lutheran Church of Belmond joined the two-point ministry in 1970 and the Belmond Lutheran Parish was formed. A new three-year program was established in 1976 by the cluster of seven area congregations. An intern from the seminary was assigned to serve in various capacities throughout the area churches. Our first intern was John Emerson, who served for two years, followed by Franz Schemmel, who served for one year.

ANNOUNCEMENT: By vote of Church Council and Pastor's suggestion, this coming Sunday, June 7, St. Olaf will open the door for an “In-Person Worship Service to begin at 9 A.M. Here are a few strong suggestions for our “Re-Gathering:”

1. Wear a mask (some may be available as you enter)

2. Use only the north door for entering and exiting.

3. Obey the roped off areas

4. Rest Room is available. Please wipe down areas of contact and wash your hands.

5. No Hymnals or Bibles…all readings will be on our presentation screen.

6. Occupy pews as directed by your ushers.

7. It is recommended that you don’t sing the hymns, but rather hum the tune and follow the words. If you choose to sing, please use your mask to provide air-born precautions.

8. It is suggested that you don’t use physical contact to welcome one-another or in a sharing of the peace.

9. Offering plates are at the entrance/exit area for your tithes, gifts, and donations. If you want your gift to be used for a particular mission of the church, please indicate your desire.

10. If you have a fever, a cough, extreme headache or chest pains, trouble breathing, or loss of taste or smell,it is best that you remain isolated.

11. Our intent is to remain connected through Facebook, E-Mail, and Cell-phones. Our Sunday Sermon and the Tuesday and Thursday devotionals will be continued. We don’t currently have the tech-savvy to produce the entire worship service experience, so it will be so much better when we can all gather in safety for worship of God, the Father, Christ, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – One God in 3 Persons, the Holy Trinity. Your prayers toward this goal will be heard and answered.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
