The Poudre Canyon dates back in history to the Trappers, Traders, and Indian battles between the Arapahos and Pawnees. The Chapel was constructed on one of the Canyon's many historical sites, the site of "Old Poudre City." "Poudre City" was the name given by over enthusiastic pioneers to the location of a stamp mill and reduction works during the flurry of gold excitement in 1887 and 1888. The chi
mney of this works still stands on the site just west of the Chapel.
~THE LITTLE STONE CHURCH IN THE HILLS~
There's a Chapel in the canyon by the Poudre,
No lovelier spot in the hills;
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little stone church by the rills. Oh come, come, come, come,
Come to the church by the Poudre,
Oh come to the church in the hills;
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little stone church by the rills. How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bell;
It's tones so sweetly are calling,
Oh come to the church in the vale.
