The Security God Provides
The building of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, during the 1930’s, was an incredible accomplishment. The head engineer of this project was very concerned about the safety aspect. At this time, it was estimated that one man was killed per million dollars spent on a big project. This engineer was determined he was going to beat the odds. Therefore, he spent a great deal of money on safety. One important item of safety was a net which was installed under the bridge. This device was similar to what is strung below the circus trapeze. It extended 10 feet wider than the bridge’s width and 15 feet longer than its length. The result was that helped to speed the rate of construction. Of course, the reason was that it gave the workers a sense of security. It is reported the net saved 19 men, who otherwise would have fallen and drowned in the waters below (https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/64379/20-awesome-facts-about-golden-gate-bridge).
In the history of God’s dealing with mankind, He has always provided security. When Moses speaks his final blessing to Israel, he reminds them, “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27).
When you and I ardently ponder the security we have in the Lord, it will enrich the quality of our lives. Fear will be replaced with faith and anxiety will be replaced with assurance from the Lord.
At the time of its construction, the Golden Gate Bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world. Without the meticulous safety measures which were employed, the task would have been more difficult. The security which resulted from the safety measures, especially the special net, made the difference.
In a much greater way, the security you and I have in the Lord should make a difference in our lives. Even in times of anxiety and fear, we can look to the Lord, who is our “divine safety net.”
