This Sunday: In Matthew 5:38–48, Jesus calls us beyond retaliation and hatred into a deeper way of living marked by justice, mercy, and courageous love. Far from asking people to become passive or accept abuse, Jesus invites us to resist evil without becoming consumed by it. Join us as we explore what it means to seek justice, protect the vulnerable, and love even our enemies in the upside-down kingdom of God.

This week we received a telephone call from Samaritans Purse - Operation Christmas Child. They provided an update on the shoebox collection for 2025.
Over 12 million shoeboxes were collected with 11 million of those coming from the United States! Of those 12 million, 6 million children have received these gifts so far and 3 1/2 million of those children have accepted Christ!
Since the inception of this amazing program over 244 million shoebox gifts have been provided to children around the world, in many cases it's the first gift they have ever received!
The 2026 national collection week is Nov. 16 -23. Please plan to provide a gift box this year!
I keep a bag in my closet and whenever I see a suitable item for a box I buy it and put it in the bag. Easy to fill a couple of boxes that way!

This Sunday at First Baptist Church of Bellows Falls: In a world where relationships and trust can feel fragile, Jesus invites us into a different kind of community, one where people are not disposable, and words can be trusted. Join us as we continue exploring the upside-down kingdom revealed in the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 5:31–37, Jesus speaks about divorce, promises, and truthful speech, calling us into lives marked by dignity, faithfulness, and integrity. At the center of this teaching is the invitation to reflect the character of God through the way we honor one another, keep our commitments, and speak truthfully.

This Sunday at First Baptist Church: In Matthew 5:21–26, Jesus deepens the commandment against murder by exposing the roots of harm within the human heart, anger, contempt, and unresolved conflict. He calls his followers not only to avoid violence but to actively pursue reconciliation, even before offering worship. This teaching reminds us that our relationships with others are inseparable from our relationship with God. True righteousness is not merely external obedience, but a transformed heart that seeks peace, takes responsibility, and moves toward healing. In a world quick to divide, Jesus invites us into the difficult but life-giving work of making things right with one another.

This Sunday: The Old Testament law was never intended to make better rule followers. It was intended to turn our hearts toward God and show us how to reflect God’s character. In Matthew 5:17–20, Jesus challenges us to move beyond surface level faith into a deeper, truer righteousness. He doesn’t discard God’s law; He fulfills it and invites us into a life shaped from the inside out. Join us as we explore how following Jesus forms a community marked by genuine transformation and not by performance and rule following.
