All who come in the spirit of good will are welcome here. As a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Our tradition is a liberal faith. Faith teaches us that Beloved Community is not built from perfect agreement. It is built through radical welcome, through the practice of making room for one another, through the daily discipline of living our values, and, yes, sometimes through loving and accountable critique. Beloveds, there are not words enough to express how grateful I am that we are all in shared ministry together. These are days when community is our rallying point and our protection and our strength. I want to share an important message with you that’s new for us at your UUA - a State of the Association meant to update you on the work of your Association, invite you into further collaboration, and offer the kind of transparency that is required for all of us to hold the heart of the faith together.

Join me and colleagues, the Rev. Nancy McDonald Ladd and Carey McDonald for a special online event on Monday, March 30 at 3pm EDT/2pm CDT/12pm PDT. We’ll share an unprecedented view into programs and planning happening at your UUA, with an invitation into multiple pathways of deeper partnership. Together, we can continue the essential work building a bridge toward a more liberated and thriving future for generations to come.

The Unitarian Universalist Association is a sponsor of the March 28 No Kings National Day of Nonviolent Action. Find or host an event in your community: https://www.nokings.org/?SQF_SOURCE=uua

History is clear: people-led movements — not force, not one politician — are how we end attacks on our rights and attempts at authoritarianism. We, the people, will save each other. When communities stand together in nonviolent action, fear loses its power.

Ahead of No Kings March 28, join one of their upcoming trainings: Making a Safety Plan, Organizing for No Kings & Beyond, Safety & Deescalation 201, Protest Rights & Safety Practices, and more. Check the Trainings tab at https://www.nokings.org/?SQF_SOURCE=uua.

On March 24, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Noem vs. Al Otro Lado—a case that could shape the future of asylum.

The UUA has joined an amicus brief, organized by the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice, alongside faith partners supporting a just and humane asylum system.

For UUs, this work is grounded in our faith—our commitment to the inherent worthiness of every person.

“Over the past decade, Unitarian Universalists have worked tirelessly to support the rights of immigrant families and communities… We are pleased to be part of this coalition,” said UUA Executive Vice President Carey McDonald.

On March 24th, UUs will also join a Kairos Center–organized faith vigil outside the Supreme Court to declare: no turning back on the right to asylum.

“Start building these connections now.”

That guidance, shared by Lena Gardner, a Minneapolis resident and Executive Director of Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism, is one of the clearest lessons coming out of this moment. When communities are connected—when neighbors know one another, share resources, and build relationships—people are safer. And repression becomes harder.

What’s happening in Minneapolis is a reminder that this work doesn’t begin when a crisis arrives. It begins now, in everyday acts of mutual care and solidarity.

East Shore UU is a member church of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). In a recent statement, the UUA released the following: "The Unitarian Universalist Association condemns the Trump Administration’s military strikes overnight against the country of Venezuela. These actions were taken after months of U.S. military harassment resulting in the deaths of Venezuelan civilians and undertaken without involvement of Congress, according to published reports. As people of faith and conscience, it is essential to speak out now as this situation quickly escalates, creating dangers across the Hemisphere.
The people of Venezuela have the right, as all people do, to safety and self-determination. We urge our elected leaders and the courts to exercise definitive moral leadership to swiftly curtail these abuses of power and prevent this Administration from causing further loss of life and violations of international law."
