One beautiful way to pray with Sacred Scripture is to really imagine the scene and put yourself in it. For example, what if you were one of the servants at the Wedding at Cana? How would you react to seeing the miracle of Jesus? What scene really draws your heart today?

Since St. Matthew was a tax collector, we shouldn't be surprised that his Gospel references money the most! Many people are stressed about money. Today, we invite you to consider the story from Matthew 17:24-27 - Peter stresses about money, and brings his concerns to Jesus. Jesus tells Peter to look in the mouth of the fish he just caught, and there he finds the money he needs. Now, prayer may not always immediately solve our money woes, but in taking our concerns to Jesus, we can give Him our anxiety and maybe even figure out next steps in unexpected ways!

This doesn't mean that we won't have hard times. Maybe you are going through a tough period right now. What it means is that no matter what happens in our lives, God is still there for and with us. His love for us does not change, and we can have peace and security in that reality.

You may think that this beautiful prayer applies only to being in a Church. But... through baptism, we are all "houses of the Lord" and, thus, able to gaze upon his beauty. No matter the physical location, we can always close our eyes and, through prayer, draw close to God.

Today's Gospel has a strong connection to a passage we heard proclaimed during Lent: the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. At the conclusion of that passage, the woman runs back to town to tell everyone about what Jesus has told her. As the townspeople begin to make their way out to the well to see Jesus, he tells the Twelve to "lift up [their] eyes, and see the fields are white for harvest." What were they looking at? The white head coverings and clothing of the Samaritans.

It's a good reminder that often, the people we are supposed to speak the Word to are RIGHT in front of us.

Today, let's ask the Lord for the strength to proclaim his Word to our neighbors here within the boundaries of St. Mary's.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, we remember Mary's heart, that image of her soul, which was in perfect continuity with God's plan. We call this the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which she longs to share with all of us. May we share in her heart, and love our neighbors the way she does. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

The Sacred Heart of Jesus has several important symbols. The flames represent the fire of His love. The thorns wrapping around it represent the pain Jesus endured for our sins. the Cross at the top represent the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus for our sake. And the wound in the side of the heart represents the spear that pierced His side after He died on the cross - it is the love and Mercy of God poured out on all of us! Take some time to reflect on an image of the Sacred Heart today!
