Beginning in the 1500s, Spanish and French travelers reached what is now known as Bellevue, Nebraska. Beginning in 1720, missionaries began to visit Bellevue, including Fr. who was a missionary to the local Native Americans. Mark's parish was founded in 1921 and placed in the care of The Columban Fathers Foreign Mission soon thereafter. Mary's returned to care of the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1948.
The cornerstone for the original church, now St. Mark's Hall, was laid in 1933 and the newer church in 1957. Mary's School opened in 1948 under the care of the Dominican Sisters from Kentucky and is now in the care of our lay faculty and staff. Mary's continues to be a strong and vibrant parish that is supported by long time families of "Olde Towne" Bellevue, retired military, and a constant stream of active military at Offutt Air Force Base.
