Christ Reformed Church - Northern KY An up-and-coming Church Plant that loves Christ, stands on Scripture, and makes disciples

A confessional church that stands on Scripture, engages unbelief with truth and love, relies on the ordinary means of grace, and seeks God’s comforting Word and Spirit in every circumstance of life.

"So, when we say ordinary means of grace-based ministry, we mean a radical commitment to following the direction of God’s Word as to both the message and the means of gathering and perfecting the saints. Ordinary means ministry has a high view of the Bible, preaching, the church, the sacraments, and prayer. Ordinary means ministry believes that the key things that the church can do in order to help people know God and grow in their knowledge of God are: First, emphasize the public reading and preaching of the Word; second, emphasize the confirming, sanctifying and assuring efficacy of the sacraments, publicly administered; and third, emphasize a life of prayer, especially expressed corporately in the church. These things are central and vital but sadly often under-emphasized, under-appreciated, and undermined."

We are living in a confused and confusing time for confessional Christians (Christians who are anchored by a public and corporate theological commitment to be f

“The Lord's Supper is spiritual food that strengthens us for our long and weary pilgrimage to heaven... The efficacy of the Lord's Supper doesn't rest on our emotional response to it; it is not a mere memorial in which we remember what Jesus did for us. Rather, the Lord's Supper works because through these ordinary means God works in us, strengthening our faith and pointing us afresh to Christ and the gospel.”

"In short, God enters the room, just as he did at Sinai, a room filled with chattering, demanding, pleading, complaining, sovereign selves, and the announcement rings through the hall, "The Lord is in his holy temple! Let all the earth keep silence before him!" He comes to expose us for the scam artists that we are, to reverse the spin that we have put on our lives, and to leave us with absolutely no foundation and no hope apart from the Son with whom he is well pleased, "who has become for us wisdom from God-that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: 'Let him who boasts boast in the Lord’" (1 Cor. 1:30). Preaching is the Ellis Island of God's kingdom, the port of entry for "strangers and aliens," through which we must constantly pass again and again throughout our lives. We come in with our own scripts, our own storied selves, and instead of editing them here and there, God rewrites them entirely in the light of his own plot. As Calvin reminds us, "Christ the Lord promises to his followers today no other Kingdom of Heaven' than that in which they may 'sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob' [Matt. 8:11].' The point is not to find a place for God in our story but to receive the good news that God has found a place for us in his. There is a seat for us at the table of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, even though we didn't even belong in the same neighborhood." - Michael Horton (A Better Way)

"God promises that we are His in the gospel, and He confirms His favor toward us through baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Yes, God invites believing sinners to come to Him—not to an altar—but to a font (where the water of baptism is applied) and to a communion table (where bread and wine are given to struggling sinners to remind them of God’s favor and to strengthen weak faith)." - Kim Riddlebarger

In those fundamentalist churches in which I was raised, most Sunday mornings the minister preached from a well-worn Bible, told a few stories to illustrate his
