God has an assignment for you to fulfil

‘I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.’ Philippians 1:6 CSB

Your God-given assignment in life comes with three things.

1) A plan. ‘I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.’ (Philippians 1:6 CSB) As you spend time with the Lord in prayer, He will reveal His plan to you. And He will do it one step at a time. You might say, ‘But what if I make a mistake? What if I stumble?’ The Bible says, ‘The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand’ (Psalm 37:23-24 NLT).

2) A time frame. Not only does God have a personal plan for you, He schedules certain things to take place in your life at certain times. ‘… For the time to favour her, yes, the set time, has come’ (Psalm 102:13 NKJV). That’s why you must stay in step with God and in sync with the beat of the Holy Spirit who lives within you.

3) Victory in spite of the odds and the opposition. ‘For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith’ (1 John 5:4 NLT).

Keep your faith strong. Keep trusting God. You may say, ‘But the circumstances don’t look good.’ God is in control of your circumstances. He made the sun stand still to give Joshua extra time to win the battle over his enemies, and He can alter the circumstances for your good and His glory.

Your quiet time ( Part 1)

‘You are my shelter and my shield; I put my hope in Your Word.’ Psalm 119:114 CSB

What’s stopping you from having a regular quiet time with God? Maybe the very thought feels filled with ‘shoulds’ and ‘ought tos’; like another item to add to the unending checklist of your life. So, you think, ‘Maybe later, when life slows down.’ We need to shed the myths and impractical expectations the Enemy uses to prevent us from experiencing the joy of knowing Jesus and being known by Him. David wrote: ‘The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in His Temple. For He will conceal me there when troubles come; He will hide me in His sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me … My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with Me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming”’ (Psalm 27:4-6, 8 NLT).

When David wrote those words, there was no temple or ‘house of the Lord’. So, what did he mean? That God is as close to you as a prayer; that you can seek the Lord, delight in the Lord, meditate on the Lord, and talk with the Lord anywhere and anytime. The words ‘you’re my place of quiet retreat’ mean you can withdraw from people, pressures, and problems and draw fresh strength from the Lord by communing with Him in your heart and mind. It can happen anywhere and anytime.

God has a plan for your life

‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good … to give you a future and a hope.”’ Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

Paul was totally invested in what God had called him to do. Are you? When it comes to barriers to success, we are usually our own worst enemies. Taking the steps necessary to fulfil a God-given dream will cost you. You will have to work hard. You will have to make sacrifices. You will have to keep learning, growing, and changing. Are you willing to do that? Most people aren’t. Ask people when they will do what they want to do, and most will answer that they hope to do it ‘someday’. Why not now? Because you’re not ready? Perhaps you’re not. But if you wait until you are, maybe you will never do it. You only get ready by starting. And if you’re willing to start, here are some things you can count on.

First, it will be different from what you imagined. Second, it will be more difficult than you imagined. Third, it will be better than you imagined. Mark Twain said that the two greatest days in a person’s life are the day they were born and the day they discover why they were born. If you want to discover why you were born, spend time with God. His Word says, ‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT).

When God opens the door (Part 2)

‘For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.’ 1 Corinthians 16:9 NKJV

In doing the will of God, you should anticipate opposition from those who are not privy to what God has shared with you or instructed you to do. Indeed, if you are accepted and applauded wherever you go, you should re-examine either the assignment you believe God has given you or the way in which you are carrying it out. You say, ‘But didn’t Jesus say that His yoke was “easy”?’. Yes, and He was talking about a comfortable-fitting yoke around the neck of a hardworking ox that ploughed from morning until night. The work was hard, but the yoke was comfortable. That means when God calls you to do something difficult, He will provide you with the grace and resources to do it.

You say, ‘But Satan is attacking me.’ Attack is a sign of respect; it means you represent a threat to the kingdom of darkness. And as you get closer to your God-given goal, expect Satan’s attack to intensify. But there is good news. The intensity of the attack is an indicator of the blessing God has for you on the other side of the attack. And one more thought. Your greatest rewards will not come in this life but in the life to come. And that’s good because they won’t just be temporal; they will be eternal. The hymnist wrote: ‘To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be; He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.’

When you’re not certain, trust God

‘For we walk by faith, not by sight.’ 2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

Close your eyes and try walking without sight, and you will get an idea of what it means to walk by faith. Faith in what? The unchanging character of God, goodness of God, love of God, and truth that He always has your best interests at heart. With God, information is given on a need-to-know basis. And God determines who needs to know what and when. Here is an example of this: the early church needs to decide if God is calling them to include Gentiles. After much prayer, they send out this letter: ‘It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us …’ (Acts 15:28 NIV). Really? Seemed good? The future of the entire human race is at stake, and the best you can do is ‘it seemed …’? Yet the church leaders were quite comfortable sending out this letter.

Apparently, God’s will for His people was that they should not be told precisely what His will was, or at least not all the details. Presumably, He knew they would grow more if they had to think and discuss and hash it out rather than get a memo. Evidently, they didn’t require certainty. They were happy to settle for heartfelt obedience. When Paul says we ‘walk’ by faith, he is referring to the slowest form of transportation known to man. He is also referring to a process that happens one step at a time. God has the satellite view; He sees your entire journey from beginning to end and plans each step. And He says, ‘Do what I have given you to do, and when you have done it, I will show you what I want you to do next.’

Be interested in everything God does .

‘It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.’ Proverbs 25:2 NKJV

Anything that reveals something about our Creator is something we ought to be interested in. Scripture is in a classification all by itself as God’s written revelation. But mathematics discloses a distinctive dimension of God’s personality too. Along with art, and science. The Bible says: ‘And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. … He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five. Also, he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree of Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and of fish. And men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.’ (1 Kings 4:29, 32-34 NKJV).

Solomon’s breadth of knowledge gave him such a depth of wisdom that ‘from all nations, people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom’. Who sent those men? ‘The kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.’ As Spirit-filled citizens of God’s kingdom, we haven’t been called to avoid the culture but to inform it, instruct it, and illuminate it. ‘It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.’ (Proverbs 25:2 NKJV) God loves it when we realise something or encounter something new to us, even if our discoveries are common knowledge. Isn’t that a normal parental reaction when our children discover new things? When you keep asking the right questions, God will keep giving you the right answers.

So ,Be interested in everything God does

Navigating life’s losses

‘A time to gain, and a time to lose.’ Ecclesiastes 3:6 NKJV

God’s Word neither ignores nor minimises the painful realities of life. Inevitably, we, and our loved ones, will experience life’s losses: illness, death, break-ups, disability, loss of independence, unemployment, failures, etc. Today’s culture prepares us for gain, but not for loss; to dance, but not to mourn (see Ecclesiastes 3:4). Major losses throw us into uncertainty. So, we need to understand the dynamics of our loss in order to help us through it and get back to living again. Life-changing loss begins with bereavement – the agony of feeling that something or someone indispensable to us has been ripped away, leaving us feeling robbed. Then comes grief – searing emotions of overwhelming sorrow that are often accompanied by anger, distress, confusion, and helplessness. Next, we move into the mourning stage and begin to express our grief and loss. This is the hard work stage of tears, memories, and heartrending spasms of weeping that shake us to our very core. We feel guilt and remorse over what we have said or done or not said or done. Our heartache gives those around us the opportunity to respond, offering the comfort and reassurance we need to begin healing. This is God’s method for healing broken hearts. At the age of 120, Moses, the Israelites’ beloved leader died leaving behind him a grief-stricken nation (see Deuteronomy 34). God allowed them thirty days to mourn their loss and to comfort one another before resuming the business of life. So take the time you need to do the work of mourning your losses because Jesus said, ‘Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted’ (Matthew 5:4 KJV).
