On April 23, 1833, a small group of young people in Paris gathered with a simple goal: to serve their neighbors in need.

From that moment, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was born.

Today, on the anniversary of our founding and the birthday of our founder, Frédéric Ozanam, Vincentians continue that mission through thousands of Conferences worldwide.

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of a wonderful man and Vincentian, Joe Hubbard.
Joe dedicated his life to living out the Corporal Works of Mercy. He was an inspiration to many as well as a beacon of hope to those in need. "Eternal rest grant unto Joe, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul as well as the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen".

The housing crisis is increasing—and leaving more people and families without a place to call home.

National trends show that for every person rehoused, three more fall into homelessness. The numbers are staggering: (Source: National Alliance to End Homelessness)

• 18% increase in homelessness (2023–2024)
• 19,000 people became newly homeless each week in 2023
• 7.3M affordable housing units needed
• $1,575 median rent for a 1-bedroom—far above the $943 max Social Security payment

At the Society of St. Vincent de Paul USA, we see this crisis every day. That’s why we focus on prevention—offering rental assistance, support, and stability before families lose their homes.

Today the Society celebrates 192 Years Young! 🥳

On April 23, 1833 - Frédéric Ozanam's 20th birthday - he and five other students met in the offices of their older mentor where they founded the first Conference of Charity, declaring: “Let us go to the poor!” Members of this Catholic lay organization sought to grow in holiness by loving service to those in need. Now known collectively as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, thousands of Conferences around the world continue the work and mission that began in Paris 192 years ago today.
