Church visits continue for President Curtis. In August, he got the opportunity to visit the dual parish of Bethany Lutheran Church and Signal Hill Lutheran Church, both served by Rev. Jeff Hemmer (two of Pastor Hemmer's kids are also pictured.) President Curtis connected with both congregations for a "District President Q&A" during Bible Study and served as preacher and deacon.

Pastors, while the SID Fall Conference doesn't start until October 5, a reminder that our registration closes *August 31*. This year, we're in Columbia. The conference will start with a Divine service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church , Columbia. Then the conference will continue at Toddhall Retreat Center. The keynote is Rev. Dr. Richard Stuckwisch, president of the Indiana District. He will present on "The Liturgy of the Gospel and the Worship of Faith". Join Messiah Lutheran in Carlyle for their annual Chicken Dinner Fundraiser Sunday, August 30, 2026: 10:30am-1:30pm. There are options to dine in, carry out, or pick up the food to go in the drive through. Menu is their famous fried chicken, cheesy baked mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, and homemade dessert (pie, cake or cookies.) Only $15 per serving. Stop by and say hi!

The Southern Illinois District is pleased to announce that Rev. Jacob Moore has accepted the Call to serve our District as a Missionary Pastor in the southeastern region of our District.

Pastor Moore’s ministry is the crossroads of two of the SID’s Five Critical Initiatives: Focused Outreach Efforts and Serving Remote Congregations. The saints at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldorado and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Golconda are excited to welcome him as their pastor. Pastor Moore and his family will be residing in Harrisburg, the largest town in Illinois without a Lutheran church, where we pray the Lord’s blessing on a future church plant.

As the protocol for this unique District-Parish partnership states:

Our Congregations (Faith & Our Redeemer) pledge to support our Pastor in his ministry to us and to the wider community in the hopes of also establishing a worshiping congregation in Harrisburg. We will pray for him, work with him, and exhibit a willing heart and a joyous flexibility in achieving this mission as the people of God!

Pastor Moore was raised in the South County area of St. Louis. His wife, Hope, is from our own SID, growing up at Zion in Litchfield. Pastor Moore is a graduate of Lutheran High School South, Southeast Missouri State, and Concordia Seminary St. Louis (2023). The Moores have been blessed with three children, and another is expected to arrive this fall.

We encourage every SID congregation to include a prayer of thanksgiving and blessing for Pastor Moore, his family, and the work of the Lord in southeastern Illinois!

Joshua Marlatt was installed as Associate Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville on July 25. He is a new graduate from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and we are excited to welcome him and his wife, Sarah to Southern Illinois!

Join us for a meaningful day of learning and fellowship with older adults from across the district on September 24.
We’ll meet at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights, board a bus at 8:30 AM, and travel to St. Louis for brunch at Roosters followed by a guided tour of the Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum. Together, we’ll reflect on the history and lasting impact of the Holocaust, and why its lessons still matter today.
Cost is $50 and includes transportation and museum admission (participants will purchase their own brunch). We’ll return around 4:00 PM.

Over 200 gathered at Southern Illinois District's Day of Spiritual Renewal! This yearly event is a wonderful time for all of our church workers to come together before the start of the school and be refreshed in the Word. The day started with Divine Service, where President Curtis preached. After some welcome announcements from our Schools and General Executive, Jeffrey Fick, there were two keynote sessions, fellowship time, and a BBQ lunch. A special thank you to our speaker, the Rev. Dr. Gregory Truwe who presented great resources on catechesis in the classroom. And big thanks to Trinity Edwardsville for hosting worship and Metro East Lutheran High School for their building and all the support from staff and volunteers. Join us for the Southern Illinois District Youth Gathering on Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL. This day is set apart for high school youth to pause, rest, and be renewed in Christ.

In the middle of busy schedules and constant noise, this gathering is an opportunity to step away and reflect on the true rest given to us through our Savior, Jesus Christ. Come spend the day in Bible study, worship, fellowship, and meaningful activities designed to encourage and restore.

The day will feature a keynote from Rev. Brandon Metcalf, along with breakout sessions from Barry Pfeiffer on “The Blessing of Boredom” and Laura Morrison on “Finding Sabbath.” Enjoy pastries and coffee in the morning, plus lunch provided with subs and salads from Firehouse.
