Today we made the call to cancel church because of the snow. While we won’t gather in the building, God is still very much at work in our homes.
About a week ago, my son found The Game of Life at a thrift store and asked a simple but profound question:
“So… how do you do life?”
Since we started playing, he’s been surprised by how little of the game is a straight line.
It’s never just spin, move, and win.
There are bills and taxes.
Kids and responsibilities.
Accidents, detours, and unexpected setbacks.
And very few smooth paths to the “millionaire” ending.
What struck me is how honest the game is.
Life is rarely fixed.
It’s constantly forming us.
That’s been the heart of our Formed, Not Fixed series—God isn’t just trying to get us to a destination; He’s shaping who we are along the way. And we’ve been reminded week after week that we won’t do big things like Jesus unless we’re faithful in the little things like Jesus.
Jesus didn’t rush.
He didn’t skip ordinary moments.
He was faithful in daily obedience, quiet trust, and steady love.
And because of that, God did extraordinary things through Him.
Jesus tells us in John 16:33,
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
He doesn’t promise a straight path.
He promises His presence.
So today, our family will be settling in for a long game (or two) of Life—laughing, frustrated at unexpected setbacks, and reminding ourselves that the goal isn’t just the ending. It’s who we’re becoming along the way.
If you’re snowed in, stuck in a season you didn’t plan for, or feeling like life has taken a sharp turn, remember this:
You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You’re being formed.
Stay faithful in the small things today. God is doing more than you can see.
Grace and peace to you—we can’t wait to gather again soon
