This bench comes from an 1870s chapel in Anamosa Iowa, the same town Grant Wood (painter of "American Gothic" 1930) was born.

The chapel has been vacant for generations never getting electricity or plumbing.

The pew is about 5 feet long & 20 inches deep. This is about 4 inches shallower than most pews making it great for a smaller entryway.

In 1901 German immigrants in St Louis built the Evangelisch-Lutherische Emmaus Kirche. For decades services were held in German.

We were blessed to salvage some of the original benches.
The church has gone through several denominations and currently has services but is also used as a community center for plays & performances.
