On Sunday we talked about Hebrews 11 and the account of God’s interrupting Abraham’s life of comfort and directing him to start a journey of faith.

Here are some thoughts about how to grow our faith to prepare for God’s interruptions (invitations) in our lives. Number 5 is particularly compelling as we saw on Sunday.

⛰️ 1. Interruptions Are Often Invitations

When God called Abraham, it was an interruption — leaving home, family, comfort, and certainty. But it wasn’t just disruption; it was invitation. God interrupted Abraham’s settled life to start something far greater — a covenant story that would bless all nations.

“By faith Abraham… went out, not knowing whither he went.” #

When our plans are interrupted, God may be redirecting us toward a better story — one that requires faith to even begin.

🕊️ 2. Faith Means Trusting Without Full Explanation

God rarely gave Abraham the full map — only a next step. Faith is walking forward with incomplete information but complete trust in God’s character.
Interruptions test that: they strip away control and ask, “Do you trust Me, or just your plan?”

Sarah’s story mirrors this too — a lifetime of waiting, doubt, and delay before fulfillment. Yet through her, God proved that His timing and power transcend human limits.

🌾 3. God’s Interruptions Produce Spiritual Maturity

Faith that is never interrupted stays shallow. Every divine detour — the delay in having Isaac, the testing on Mount Moriah — matured Abraham’s trust.
Interruptions teach dependence, reshape priorities, and reveal what we value most.

“For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (v. 10)

When we’re forced to stop building our plans, we begin to long for His foundations.

🔥 4. Testing Isn’t Cruelty — It’s Refining

Abraham offering Isaac is the clearest example. God interrupted his joy, his fatherhood, his future — yet the interruption revealed the depth of his faith and foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice of God’s own Son.

“Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.” (v. 19)

Our interruptions often hide a resurrection-shaped promise — something God intends to restore in a new way.

🌅 5. Faith Turns Interruptions into Testimonies

Hebrews 11 reframes the whole story: what looked like disruption became legacy. Abraham’s obedience is remembered forever because he responded with faith, not fear.

When God interrupts our lives, He’s writing something that only makes sense in hindsight — something others will see as proof of His faithfulness.
